Baby blanket

IMG_4624

This is the start of another baby blanket.   My cousin, Darlene, made it and I loved it so she shared the pattern with me.   Thus I am making this one.

A Barn Door

IMG_4620

I am so excited about getting this barn door.   It will make life  when I need to work with the sheep.   They won’t be able to escape their pen when trying to get one in.     We were going to put up a new small barn, but we would have had to ask for a variance and then it would have cost more money than we wanted to spend.    So after much thought, we have cleaned this old aviary out and had this door made.   We will put in 3 lambing stall across the back a gate across the outside sleeping area and I will be a very happy person.   And so will DH since it is so much less expensive.

These socks are finished.  I got a little carried away and went to far on the toes, but I’m not going to take them apart as it doesn’t bother me when they are on my foot.   So you can see in this photo, the two pair of short socks and one pair of regular socks from which I took the leftover to make this short pair.  (ok, the lights are bad today)

And did I mention we picked up enough fertilizer for the next two years.   The store had what we like to use and so often I can’t find it, that we just put in a supply.

Pattern testing

IMG_4613

I won’t be able to show you the quilt until September, but this is a part of a pattern I am testing.  Or is it testing my skills?   These still need a good pressing.

And just to make a bit more room, these 2 boxes of books which were consuming 2 book shelves are on their way out the door.   There is no use storing cookbooks when one is mostly cooking by what pops into the head or sounds interesting on the internet.   So the books will go to someone who will be happy to  go through them and look at them.  Now I can actually put all the other books in that room on shelves.

A package

IMG_4609[1]

Beautiful, aren’t they?    Two nights ago, I had no resistance left and shouldn’t have been looking at a sale page, but I did and this is the sock yarn that arrived today – enough for 9 new pair of socks.  I am definitely doing the happy dance today.  And yes, this really qualifies as a “want” not a “need”.

Mary was over today – she only gets to come once in a great while anymore because she is babysitting her new grandson while her daughter works.   We had so much to catch up on as we knit and crocheted.  And would you believe these wonderful yarns came right after she left?

Free socks #2

It’s been a busy day, since somehow gardens need to be watered and houses need to be cleaned.   So with the bit of time in between other chores, these socks have been progressing

IMG_4606

I’m really hoping that there is enough yarn to finish at least down to the toes.   I weighed a pair of finished socks and weighed the yarn left to do these and it was touch and go.   Time will tell.

Daffodil progress

IMG_4604

There are many small pieces to add to the few larger pieces in this quilt. So I’d like to show you how it goes together.

IMG_4599Do you see these units?

IMG_4601

Then they are sewn together like this and a border is put on each side.   I know it looks like it is wrinkled, but that is actually the design in the fabric.

IMG_4602

Then there are different triangles in the border that goes around the quilt.   I really like how it makes the daffodils stand out.

We are having a nice mix of hot, rain, and clouds.   Tomorrow, forecast to be cloudy, will be a great day get back into the gardens, especially since rain is forecast for the weekend.

A new quilt starts

IMG_4594These are the big pieces of the new Daffodil quilt.   There are many small pieces that will fill in between the major pieces.   Today I cut it out and barely started sewing as you can see.

On days when they forage the other side of the road and around the house, this is what they do 5 minutes before feeding time.   They mill around and look through the sliding glass doors to let me know the time.

Here is my 90-year young aunt showing off her birthday quilt.   She was so delighted, I was happy to have made it for her.

It seems I can go hard for 2-3 days and then I need a slower day – is that normal?

Day of gardening

IMG_4589The potatoes are now 3 feet tall and growing rapidly.  Some are starting to flower, both in here and in the hillside garden.

IMG_4588

All the tomatoes are tied up and weeded, the ones that aren’t will be moved outside Sunday when we have some help.   One tomato plant was a gift, the others are all volunteers and some are flowering.  On the left is Chinese cabbage, kale beets, and lettuce.  In front and in the same bed as the tomatoes are a dozen sweet potato plants.  There are peppers in the back middle row and left row.    It is time to take most of the lettuce and out and replant.

IMG_4586In front are several zucchini plants, and there is cabbage and lettuce as well as started celery.  There is also cauliflower and broccoli near the back and 4 cucumbers.   I still have carrots, basil and cantaloupe to put in here.   It just takes time to get it all done.   We spent today mostly tying up tomatoes, fertilizing, and weeding.  My, those weeds are on steroids, they grow so rapidly

IMG_4591

And when that was done, this was DH’s reward for his help (which of course was started right after lunch).

IMG_4583

I can’t believe this is finished and ready to put in my charity pile.   That makes me so happy.

The best laid plans

IMG_4580

My brother is on the next leg of his journey.   The eye doctor is very pleased with the surgery and said he didn’t expect my vision to be this good which pleases me.   He prescribed lens to bring me up to 20/20 from the current 20/30 for night time driving, but other than that they aren’t needed.    This is great news.

After a much needed nap, I started quilting this circus quilt.   All the blocks are done as well as the horizontal quilting.  I just have two rows of vertical quilting and then bind it.   However, that won’t happen tonight as the computer on the machine has decided to take a break.    Maybe it will be ready to go Sunday.

I wish each of you a wonderful weekend.
