For sewing the plan is 2 doll dresses per month, plus we need placemats for 10 months and I like a set of 4. My goal is to make them one month ahead of need.  So I will start these in February   I  plan to make a couple “Bendy Bags” and “run around  bags” as well as a bolts worth (about 130) of purple baby hats for the hospital.  Then there is a request for the microwave bowl holder for gifts.

I am doing the yahoo groups knit along wash cloth which is monthly.   They offer 2, but I’ll be happy to get one done each month.   I also have enough yarn to do at least 10 pair of socks.  If I can squeak them in here, I’d like to do a couple crocheted baby blankets as well.

So these are my 2016 craft goals.    What are yours?   I’d love to hear them.

Mostly ramble

IMG_3677

Here are the hat photos that my computer was fighting two nights ago.   There was no post last night due to pain killers throughout the day. The doctor said a major nerve is just above the cut, which makes me feel pain in areas unrelated to the ankle.    I understand very little of all of this.   The body is a marvelous machine.   The more I learn, the more in awe of God I am.

IMG_3681

However, yesterday,  I did start this pair of gloves – at least they are cast on.  They are a real stretch for me, as I am not used to reading the graphics for knitting.   I read the instructions several times, left them and came back and read them again.   Now I believe I understand them.

Then my attention span jumped to chaining and doing the first row of a baby quilt.     The rest of the day was spent trying to sleep off the Oxycodone

Today was a trip back into Seattle to see the doctor.   He was pleased with the way the foot looks.

IMG_3678

He had the big splint taken off as well as the stitches removed.

IMG_3679

This is the small opening through which they got soft interior bone to graft to the ankle.

IMG_3680

Then I got this wonderful boot, which I really like.   It is much more comfortable, feels like it supports my foot,  and is removable.  Also, it gives me clothing options, since I only had two pair of shorts that would go over the splint.   The new guidelines are that the first week, I can use the walker by just putting a little weight on this foot, and each week I can add, so that – as long as there is no pain – in a month I may be able to walk without the walker.   After that, it will be a matter of strength training on this leg.   Anyway, that’s the current plan.

Quality Sew Fun had their annual  Christmas party today and it was wonderful to get out of the house for awhile.  Basically they had a brunch and lots of questions that you received a ticket for having the right answer.   The tickets were in a drawing – no several drawings as they had many gifts.    It’s always nice to see faces you are familiar with even if one doesn’t know the name that attaches to it.    Then it was time for “show n tell” where we were able to “show off” what we’ve done.   Their were not as many participants as usual and what were there were difficult to photograph.   I took a giraffe quilt, which got the appropriate oohs, and ahhhs.

Then DH, Mary, and I came home to relax and Mary and I made these two hats.    It was a fun and exhausting day and now the leg is up and resting.

Knit Shopping bag

IMG_2879

At some point in my life I accidentally purchased some Lion Brand “Thick & Quick” cotton.  I think I was going to make dish clothes, but this is just too thick.   So I’m using a pattern on their wrapper to make a shopping bag.  This far is 11 rows with one ball of yarn.   It seems like a heavy bag to me.  Each ball is 7 oz and it calls for 3 of them.    I’ll finish this sometime and see – it could be useful as a grocery bag if one had to carry them any distance.  When finished, it will be carried on the shoulder (I think)

A busy day

IMG_2852

Today I took the day off to shop.   First I wen to choose some countertop for the master bath.   Then came home to get Bill and we went to Joann’sIMG_2854

for a “N” crochet hook – which is large and then to lunch.   I took him home so he could go to the lake and then went

IMG_2862

Off to Goodwill where I found this doll to fix up for a Christmas gift,

IMG_2855

this kettle to make up some dyes for the wool.

IMG_2858

Then it was off to Walmart for a two more balls of yarn I needed.   They didn’t have what I wanted, but that didn’t seem to stop me from buying.   So I came home with these 4 balls of dish cloth yarn that was on sale.

IMG_2857

And while I was there, they were having a “back to school” sale on T-shirts. so I choose some from 4 different companies.   I’ll try them and see which fit the best and return the rest.   That was enough shopping for today.   However, when I got home, I received a call from the first place and she told me, the product I chose was marble and would be a lot more work, so I need to come back and choose a granite.   Ah, the joys of remodeling.

Green baby blanket

IMG_2569

Finished at 30″ square, just waiting for the right baby.   I used most of a pound of Caron’s baby yarn.

Today was a cleaning day.  All the floors on the main floor are clean and tomorrow will be woodwork.   It would be so nice if these things would just stay clean.  But even if there weren’t people and pets living here, there would be dust.    I am thankful that I have these to clean, some don’t.

Green baby blanket

 IMG_2558

We have been in the car enough this week, that I’m just past the half way point on this afghan.    I have also been working many hours on the picnic quilt, but I don’t have a lot of progress to show other than the individual blocks.

With the warmer weather, we have somewhat slowed down and enjoyed being outside more.

In case you are interested in quality meat, we have found this to be a good place to get our chicken (we are vegan, but our dogs aren’t)    They carry a variety of meat and it is delivered to a central area near you.   The prices are good.

Baby blanket progress

IMG_2515I’m remaking this blanket and now have a blanket 32″ wide.   I have 8″ done, and would like it to be at least square, so I will be crocheting on it between other projects.    It would be nice to get it done this month, but no hurry. I’m using a one pound skein of Paton’s baby sport yarn

I have 2 quilts to be done by the end of the month, then Mary and I can start our charity project for this year.   The projects I’m looking at are:

  1. 1 bolt of fleece made into purple baby hats for the hospital. (DH is crocheting hats)

  2. Dresses for African girls

  3. Shorts for African boys

  4. Sanitary pads for the African teen girls.

There may be other projects to consider, that haven’t come up yet.   Do you have other ideas, we should consider?    Would you be interested in helping with a project?   I’d love to hear from you.

Trying crocheting again

 IMG_2483     IMG_2484

We get our venison bones in these 50# boxes frozen.   We then partially thaw them and bag them in these Ziploc bags and place them back into the freezer for individual servings.

IMG_2065

Do you remember this baby blanket I made and then took apart because it wasn’t big enough?   Today, I decided that since I’m still limping for a while, this will be a great project, so I have pulled it back out and started it again.   When I crochet, I feel like I am working with several thumbs – no fingers.   I just need to do much more practice.   (The second photo is a more accurate color.)

Crocheting and shepherding

IMG_1860

After achieving a 26″ square, I decided that I didn’t like how it looked,IMG_1877

so now it looks like this.

IMG_1880

The grass outside the pasture is growing very fast, so instead of mowing it, we have decided  to be on hand to watch the sheep do the mowing.   Yes, it takes longer, because one has to be watching them so they don’t get into landscaping.  But they are so very good about going back into their area.  Well, it does look as though one is headed the wrong way, but they like to stay together so they all went in.
