Stars of Honor quilted
I spent most of the day on this. It is quilted now and I tossed it over the board so it can wait until I get time to cut all the thread tails and cut the extra batting off the sides. Then it will be ready for binding. Bit by bit, these quilts get done
The Foxes are ready for a new home
I feel so back to normal! I’ve been enjoying this “California weather” we’ve been having for the last 2 months. Yesterday, I woke up to rain and cooler with the forecast for a whole week of rain – that’s right 7 days with wind off and on. So normal, but not for the last week of August. I think the earth shifted an entire month forward. And we need the rain, so I’m not complaining.
And I don’t think I’ve updated you on these fast growing chicks. Two of them are no longer with us.
And these fellows are done and ready for their new home.
A day of cooking
This morning, I grated potatoes that had been boiled yesterday, added seasonings, then put them on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. At 400, I baked them for 20 minutes, flipped them, and did a bit over 10 minutes on the other side. Delicious and no oil!.

I FOUND the recipe for the zucchini patties that DH likes so much. It is in this cookbook by Barbara Watson.
I made 2 batches of triple the recipe which made 6 dozen patties. We should be good with zucchini patties the winter. I don’t know what I’ll do with another big zucchini. I may have to discover more recipes.
I did not have enough bread or bread crumbs to make the second batch, so used oats instead. The patties are very good, but not as delicate as the ones with bread crumbs. At least now I know that if we have to remove wheat again, we can still have these burgers.
Another dress and time
She is so happy to have this new dress. It has been in the process for awhile. Today while waiting on the phone (3 hours session) with Carbonite, getting all my info back, I was able to finish it. I have a box of shoes somewhere, but need to look for it.
Does it bother you that other people seem to value their time much more than yours? I agreed to sign for the coop delivery for someone camping this week. Two people were each supposed to pick theirs up at a designated time. One did and the other came nearly 2 hours late. Her excuse was she woke up late because she was canning peaches until 2 a.m. It didn’t appear to bother her in the least that I was waiting there all that time for her to pick up her items.
Zucchini and shopping
Not one, but two of these monsters were hidden in the garden.
Since DH likes zucchini bread, I made 6 large loaves tonight after supper. There is still enough grated zucchini for several batches of his favorite zuke patties, but I can’t find the recipe. I know that it uses tofu and I’m thinking oats, but perhaps it was wheat because I haven’t made it since he was put on a gluten-free diet. This summer he decided he was tired of that and didn’t think it made a difference, so went back to eating wheat. Now I just need to find that recipe so I can make them and freeze a lot of them.
I started the day at the gym after breakfast, then came home, a quick clothing change and off to both of the Costco stores. One is for merchants for resale and the other is the normal type of Costco. It’s interesting how ideas and habits are passed down. I know that we have stores available all winter long, but Mother came from a Dakota wheat farm, where that wasn’t the case. They ate during the winter what they put up in the summer. In turn she canned and put up most of what we ate during the winter.
Now, even though I don’t grow all our food, I still seem to be driven to have enough food on hand to get through the winter and in this case that means water as well, since when we lose power, we lose water. Even then, in the winter, I do go to the store for fresh salad items and other things I’d like, but could get along without. So it was off to the Costco stores for about 3 hours of browsing and some buying. (Don’t you love to look and see what new items are there). There will be another trip or two before bad weather hits. Then home to make dinner.
Fox and raspberries
I have about a quart that I picked tonight and maybe I ate that many while picking. These will go into the freezer for winter eating.
My friend had car troubles so didn’t come to do her quilting today. So I quilted the little foxes and will bind tomorrow (I hope). I’m thinking these will be fun for someone who has lost their home to the fires. I have a few other child quilts that I will also give. The quilt that was too short yesterday is long enough today, but has not found back to being loaded on the machine.
Too short
Quilting was very challenging today. Perhaps if I quilted a quilt every day, I might actually get good enough at this to enjoy it. Today there were several challenges. But the worst was that I did not measure correctly for the backing. Fortunately, I have more fabric and I’m only doing one block at a time instead of moving across the entire row with one stitching. Can you see that I am about a foot short – what’s up with that? Because of how this is being quilted, I took it off the machine and will sew the additional fabric on before continuing.
Here is the block I’m currently quilting and then I will go back and do the ones in between.
So now, it looks like this with which I am happy. Because a friend is coming over tomorrow that wants a quilt done, I decided to just quit early and get the floor swept and a couple smaller projects done, so we can use the cutting table.
I have been bemoaning the zucchini were so slow and DH wants zucchini bread. Look what was very well hidden. With this there will be several loaves in the freezer.
Market bag
The market bag is finished and very sturdy. It will be a great gift for someone who likes to carry heavy items as it is a shoulder bag. The top is white so no color will rub off on the garment being worn. I used Lion Brand “Thick & Quick” 100% cotton and an “L” hook. The pattern is on their website as well as on some of the balls of yarn.
And the best thing today was the computer came home. It did not need a new hard drive, but did have malware and some other “stuff” that needed to be removed. I am so happy to have it home and because I didn’t have to get a new hard drive, I didn’t have to spend the entire day putting everything back on.
Lamb sitting and Spinning blue
I’d like to introduce you to Juliette, a little French lamb. She will be spending a couple weeks here or until her shepherdess can take her back to her own pasture, which thankfully was missed by the fires, but has tons of smoke.
The lovely blue roving has been spun and the next step will be to ply it. Since I don’t have a project in mind, I’m not sure if I’ll go ahead and ply it now so it will be ready when needed or just put it away now until I need it. Isn’t that how ufos are created?
My prayer is for the firefighters in Eastern Washington and elsewhere that they will be kept safe during these trying times. The last news I heard was they may have lost 5100 homes, but can’t go into the area and see for sure. Winds were bad there yesterday. Today was calmer. Firefighters from Australia and New Zealand are joining in the fight as well as the National Guard.
