Blinds and a NA outfit.

We invited a salesman from Windowology to come out measure for a blind we need for our bedroom.   He came and installed it yesterday.   This was supposed to be a room darkening, medium price, nice looking blind.  The slats refused to even hang straight.  He removed it today.

We went out to get dog and people food today as well as go to a sale at JoAnn’s.   I only bought one thing which cost me less than $15.00.   I’ll try to remember to show her to you tomorrow.

We came home and ate leftovers and I started working on these doll clothes.   These outfits take hours—yes, hours.    I completed the work on the embroidery machine.  I still have the fringe to cut and the holes to punch on the left one.  Hopefully, tomorrow the dressed will get finished.    (They are on the work table.} IMG_0968

The red/orange handle thing is the awl that I use to poke the holes through which to pass the ribbon.

2nd Ms Santa

We started the day with some cleaning and then opened our new Christmas gift a bit early.   We purchased (on black Friday) a Instant Pot cooker that also is a rice cooker and I can do vegan yogurt in it.    The last is what really sold me on it.   So tomorrow we will get a starter and try that.   Today we put carrots, potatoes, and onions in it for 10 minutes.   The flavors fused and they were oh so good.     We have much more to learn about using it.

I did get the second Santa suit done and have started on another project.

Ms. Santa

IMG_0962

Today, I tried to work from some instructions on how to make a Santa outfit out of a stocking and a hat.      This particular set of instructions was lacking a good deal.   So much so, they didn’t bother to say where the cape was to be cut from or what size, so there was a lot of guess-work here.

I do have another outfit in the process, so when it is done, the top and bottom will match, as this has the top of one and the bottom of the other.   Sometimes when making things, they don’t always get done in the proper order.

I think a young girl will enjoy playing with it, though I do have to figure out how to make some boots to go with it.

Dec gardening

The weather this week has gone from freezing temperatures up to a balmy 48 degrees today, which means that today and tomorrow while it is not raining, we had to go spread hay   I planted some garlic (still more to plant) and some sunchokes.  As you can see, we brought 8 bales of old hay up for mulching and will finish spreading it tomorrow.

IMG_0949

The chickens did not want to be left out of this act, so as fast as we put the hay down, they scratched and made sure that no insects were left behind.   They really had a great time.

Here is Beau contentedly chewing a bone and keeping his eyes on things while we worked.

Kati & Zach park their boat here for the winter and they brought it today.   Then we went in and enjoyed popcorn and hot apple juice with spices.

We’re a bit tired but I feel good about the mulch.   We will finish spreading it tomorrow after Bill puts the rest of the bricks in place to keep the dirt from slipping down the hill.   Then the rains will take care of decomposing it and eventually it will nourish the soil.

It’s still early December and today felt like spring   But then I think the weather gets a bit mixed up in these parts.   February, it will without a doubt be very cold and windy.  Then we’ll get a long, cool spring. which is why it’s great to have a hoop house.  I can get a jump on summer, by planting in there and have many  plants ready to go outside when the weather finally cooperates.   Then there will be some plants which will stay in the house all summer.    Unfortunately, it doesn’t have any heat, so it does freeze when it freezes outside.

Why, oh, why?

Remember these.   Well, I laid them to the side to finish – what was I thinking?

IMG_0936

Why do I get a good share through a project and then lay it aside instead of  finish it?   Today, I finally finished putting in the elastic and the Velcro and the hand stitching on these clothes.   Yes, it takes awhile, but no longer than if I would have just finished them at the time of making them.    They are done!   I put in the elastic and did the hand sewing while on the phone with the Geeksquad and Carbonite – my two best buddies these days.

Geeksquad has my computer up and running and Carbonite knows where all my files hid, so they are being put back on my computer.    It has been a trying week, but the Sabbath rest is here.   God knew just what I would need and when.    He knows that about each of us and has it all planned.   I trust all of you will take advantage of the rest He gives.

Christmas shirt/shirt

Since I spent most of the day trying to get this computer back up and running  (I still don’t have files on it)  I’m not sure when life will get back to normal. However I did get a bit more done for the Christmas dolls.   I purchased a deeply discounted shirt after Halloween because the color caught my eye.   I made this little shirt and had some skirt fabric that goes with it.   Over time, I’ll be able to make several more items from the rest of the fabric

Heavy cowl

The weather has been in the freezing zone at night,  very cold for here.   I looked at my yarn and thought about those who don’t have nice, cozy, warm homes.  I found this very heavy fiber and crocheted a cowl for our street mission where food and warm clothing is given to those who need it.

IMG_0899

To make this I made a chain of 60 stitches, a single crochet at each end and double crochets for the rest.   So it wasn’t difficult.   I think when I make more that I will use a lighter weight yarn as the heavy weight isn’t as fun to work.  But this is nice and warm.

The rest of today and a lot of tomorrow will be spent putting an operating system and all the programs and data on the computer.

Sew Fun Party Day

Today  was a full day which started with the Sew Fun Christmas party.   As you can see, it was well attended.    Party-goers were given tickets for various things such as bringing a show-n-tell, doing a paper game etc.    Then numbers were drawn and prizes were handed out.

IMG_0880

Of course, food was part of the program, but I forgot to photo the table before it was mostly empty.

This afternoon, I got a phone message and here is Christian.   His new quilt had arrived in the mail.   He does have a happy look all wrapped up.

IMG_0884

I ended the day with canning 7 cups of apple butter (1 is already in use and the jar is in the refrigerator.   These apples were so sweet, no sugar was needed.   I cooked down the applesauce to about half in the crock pot and canned it

Apples are sauced!

DSC00194 applesauce

Today was mostly spent in the kitchen making applesauce out of the two boxes of apples we purchased last month.  They were losing their crispness which is a great time to sauce them.   I got 62 pints, but saved out 12 pints to make apple butter.   I’m trying to make it in the crock pot – a new approach for me.  The instructions said 8 hours, but I really think it will take overnight.  I spent the processing time trying to catch up on the mail since last Wednesday.
