Spool soufflé quilt start

Beau enjoyed riding out to the meat market to get bones for the dogs this morning, then he “helped” me do some cleaning on one of the stalls.

Because I tired of the other quilt, I started this Spool Souffle quilt.  I had it partly cut out, so cut out the background today andsewed the background onto the sides.   And guess what!.  The top and bottom of the spools have 144 lovely triangles that I get to draw diagonals on.   Not happening today and tomorrow I have gym and cleaning the house.    Maybe I should start another quilt – no, maybe I should finish something started.

Just for fun, my brother sent this site for me to add to my blog so you could be entertained.  It is a knit village – very interesting.

Brown geese done

Does this happen to you too?   I went to the gym this morning and worked for an hour, then came home and went back to bed as my brain just wouldn’t engage.

I did go to the doctor appointment this afternoon and other than trying to convince me I needed a flu shot (didn’t buy into it), they think I’ll live another few years.  All the readings were very good.

And before and after all this the brown flying geese are done.   I’m a tad tired of flying geese at this point, so have packed this project into bags with the instructions.   It is now officially a ufo which I will pull out at a later time, perhaps in a week or two.   I want to actually work on something I can finish in a reasonable time.

A shopping experience

Today was sunny, so I forced myself to go to the mall which is half an hour away.    Why do I have to force myself to go where I once loved to go.  I think it has to do with the traffic –  both cars and people, plus I don’t need many things.  I had to return 3 items of clothing that didn’t fit DH.   The Nordstrom’s experience was absolutely delightful – the clerk there was so very kind and helpful.   I will not darken the doorway of JCrew again.  Maybe these clerks just see too many unpleasant people, or maybe they don’t care about their jobs.  A shopping experience like today makes me think about how I treat people with whom I come in contact, because like them, I represent Someone.

I finished processing the split pea soup and I will be contacting Amazon on that.  I just purchased a number of boxes of jar lids and had a 20% sealing rate.  I popped all that didn’t seal into the freezer, so they are not wasted, but I think I may have encountered a bad lot of lids.

I managed to land sitting on the floor a couple days ago, rather unexpectedly, so I also worked a trip to the chiropractor into my day.  What is it about an adjustment that demands a rest?   Does it affect any of you that way?

The sewing didn’t happen and as the day was just not long enough to include it.   But the laundry is done and the floors are swept..   Tomorrow is gym and a physical.

Did I mention that we did pregnancy checks on the sheep yesterday and we are looking at the first of February for lambing, which is good.   I can sneak a few more things into this month before then.

And because I like to end positively, the closet shelves in my closet are now put up properly (when I originally put them up, I used molly screws instead of finding the joists) and the underground propane tank has been approved by the city, so we can now move forward on that.    Life is good.

Split pea soup

Somehow I didn’t get a photo, but we made two batch of split pea soup.   We canned 24 pints and the rest will happen in the morning. DH enjoys this EVERY evening for dinner.

  Some days, I run out of energy.   Maybe because I spent time in the barn changing sheep coats and cleaning out a stall that I left too long, so it was deeper than I like.   Tomorrow after I get back, I have more stall cleaning to do.  If I was really, REALLY smart, I would pick up the dropped hay weekly and then it wouldn’t have a chance to mat so badly and would not be such a workout.

 I did a minor amount of work on these brown flying geese.   I think these geese will take all week, because tomorrow I have to go up to the mall and return some items.   I keep putting this trip off.   Shopping is not a high priority anymore.  But eventually they will get done.

Brown flying geese

 In finished the 200 flying geese for step two and since today was dry, I cleaned some in the barn.   It has been so wet, that it’s a real mess and the loads are heavy, so I’m cleaning that in increments.

I skipped over to step 5, since I noticed brown flying geese, and have one wing on each of these 200 geese.  As long as I’m doing geese, I might as well get them done, right?   There are a lot of geese in this quilt.

More flying geese

Yesterday was a run around, shopping, returning type of day, so I didn’t accomplish very much.  This evening, I was able to work a bit on these.

These flying geese for “On Ringo Lake” are going slowly.   I now have 100 out of the 400 needed completed.   They are all cut now, but I still have the diagonals to draw on half of the 2″ squares

Sheep faces

Today we worked on sheep faces.  Not all are in the photo, but there are 22 of them. Tomorrow, they will be packed up and taken to her house for bodies and 3 coats of paint.   That will take until mid-week, and then they will start going to their new owners.

Sheep collectables

My friend makes these darling little sheep collectibles using real wool.  She has several orders and is behind, so this morning

was spent making ears, legs, and eyes.   Tomorrow, we will make the heads to put these onto, and then she will finish them at home over the weekend.   They have several coats of paint, which take awhile to apply.  So these are labor intensive, but they do help pay for the hay her animals eat, so that is good.

These came today from Amazon.   They are battery operated gloves for when it gets below freezing.   As I’m adding years to my body, it gets less cold tolerant.   So I’m ready for the next freeze.

“On Ringo Lake” flying geese

This is part of the instruction page for “on Ringo Lake” flying geese which is the second part of this quilt.   Due to my inability to read the whole thing, I cut my pieces at 2 x 3″ leaving off the 1/2″.   After sewing a few wings onto the geese, then measuring, I figured out why I was short 1/2″.   Back to the beginning, I cut out all 200 new geese the correct size.

 I now have 10 of my 200 flying geese for this part finished.   I’m hoping to do better tomorrow.

Seahawks tote

I got this idea for a Seahawks tote as I was getting ready for bed last night, so pulled what fabrics I have in these colors and laid them out for this morning.  And no, this is no on my list of things to do, it just seemed like a great idea.   Tonight, I am back to drawing diagonal lines on the little squares.   (In case you’re interested, this is the road to unfinished projects.)

It was such a beautiful day, I decided first to clean a stall.    Well, the sheep wanted to stand exactly where I wanted to clean so after 3 wheelbarrows, I called it quits for today.   Maybe tomorrow.   Or maybe just a bit each day.  It is difficult to move anything when a sheep is standing on it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I went back to the house and sewed the tote.   I used a pattern for the size to cut, however, did construct it a bit differently.  It finished at 5.5″ deep, 16.5 x 18.5″ for the front.   It has two outside pockets on the first photo and 3 on the second.   This seems so big to me.   What do you think?   I hope the recipient is okay with big enough to put the stadium blanket and other items in here.
