I now have 30 out of 150 of these blocks complete. They are not difficult, but it does require I sit at the sewing machine. I would like to get this quilt done by the end of summer, but I’m going to have to spend more time sewing for that.
Today I pulled 2/3 of the garlic. It is early, but we had a good spring and because I didn’t have an outside garden ready, I put them in a corner in the hoop house. They will lie here for a week curing before I braid or otherwise store them.
I picked these zucchini while they are smaller so I can use them raw.
Have you ever eaten the big leaves that grow around the cabbage head. We have found them to be very good – much like collards – only better. DH likes them better than the cabbage head.
After washing and stemming them, I slice them the long way
then crosswise. You could just slice ribbons if you prefer and sometimes I do. I then boil them for a few minutes and we like them with vinegar over them.
Today, I had plans to make a quick trip to the auto repair shop to get an estimate for a cap that was broken. Then i would stop at the grocery store, pick up a few items, come home and clean the sheep pen that i didn’t get done yesterday.
God laughed because He had other plans. I did go to the repair shop for the estimate. In fact, I was there just before my 8.30 appointment. Once the mechanic got the car up and the wheels off, he found the car unsafe to drive and would not let me leave with it until they had the dangerous items repaired (They have known us for over 30 years so we trust them).
At 11.30, I went straight home, and talked with my husband. I relayed to him that the shop thought that 27 years and nearly 300,000 miles on that car was enough. They explained the things they felt had to be fixed in the next few months if we kept driving it as the main vehicle. This was not good news to me as I hate having to deal with cars and though I enjoy the fact they get me where I need to be, I don’t enjoy buying them. DH has been after me for the past 5 years to replace this one and I kept putting him off.
So to better deal with all this, we first enjoyed our favorite Mexican restaurant’s offerings. Then we set out to look at cars, really not knowing whether it should be a car or a small truck. We did know we needed something easier for DH to get in and out of and possibly carry a lot of feed bags or a dog.
Since we have had Hondas for years and years and years, we started and ended there. We chose a used car – 2015. Then instead of my car we traded in his which was only 17 years old and opted to buy this CR-V as a “family” car. We will keep my old car in case we need to haul sheep or ? until we do get a small truck. (I’ll try to get a better photo outside the garage when the sun shines again)
I am so thankful that God cares about these little parts of our lives. He had this car waiting for us at the price we were willing to pay. I never did get to the grocery store or get the sheep pen cleaned, and this was certainly not my plan for the day, but He knows what I need and when I need it. Before I knew what I needed, he set it all in motion. What an awesome God!
This Euro style scarf is finished. It was a fast and easy knit, however, I did learn that if I’m not paying attention, I don’t count accurately. The pattern is a multiple of 5, which isn’t hard, just had to pay attention. This is very, very soft in the Cascade yarn. I will block it later.
This is another suggested way to wear it, which I won’t be wearing as I don’t go to formal events.
After finishing this, i spent 3 hours cleaning barn stall floors, so did not start anything else. And I will admit to wanting to eat something totally off program, but I won’t.
I’ve been knitting this euro cowl as I really like how the colors are moving in the scarf. I’m now about 1/3 done. The other nice thing is that one knits until the last 4 feet of yarn and then the bind off, so when you are done, you don’t have left over yarn either.
This wisteria would like to claim the deck as its home. These are last years branches and it has already started on this years. However after researching their habits, we decided to stop that now. so I cut the branches down and now we’ll put copper in the ground which is supposed to kill the roots.
And today I say a thank you to those of you joining the challenge to lose any amount of weight in June. I went to the grocery store from the chiropractor. It was 12.15 and I was hungry. I picked up a goodie to eat on the way home, thought of you, and put it back down. I waited until I got home for lunch. Thanks for helping me by taking the challenge. Since we were going, I went out to the hoop house to see if there was a gift I could take. Look at this beautiful 5 1/2 pound cabbage. I did not weigh the zucchini, but they were nice and long. The garden is doing well, except for the green beans which I will replant tomorrow.
No, I don’t yet know how to drive this 4 wheel toy, but we have a farm helper that can do anything. He will be using it to seed, fertilize and in general do what we need done that we can’t do ourselves. Our piece of property is a lot of uphill/downhill terrain. I will learn to drive it, because if a sheep gets in trouble a way from the barn, I am not able to carry it, but I could load it and get help.
