2004 Shop Hop Blocks:
I am at the point where not all the pieces that are attached to that particular pattern make sense. I do need to make 6 more blocks to complete a top and since I do not have 6 more patterns, but I do have an extra package of pieces, I’ll make one up. A complete quilt is better than a ufo, right? And when one gets these patterns, one usually only gets some of the pieces, therefore, I also will be coming up with some extra pieces to complete some of the patterns. However, this quilt top will soon be done and on a hanger which is so much closer to someone being able to use it.
On another note: I received these two skeins of yarn from Knitpick in place of the ones with dyes that didn’t come through. They are really very nice to work with.
PS: The weather promises to be warmer tomorrow – meaning above freezing day and night for a time. I’d so much rather rain than freezing.
Sunrise, an apron, and blocks
SUNRISE
This was the gorgeous sunrise I enjoyed when I went out to let the animals outside.
This wonderful apron was in a squishy that came arrived in yesterday’s mail. (We do get late mail). Sally, my friend, made it and sent it as a surprise. Everyone needs a ” Sally” friend. After being down all week, it was a real ” pick me up”. And the workmanship is quality beyond fault. Thank you, Sally
Look at the pocket. It looks like a flower pot. And the words are so positive. I just love it! It is my “Special Occasion” apron. Mother worked in the kitchen, then when it was time to sit with the guests, she would change into her special apron – which for her was often one of those frilly half aprons.
More quilt blocks
It would have been so helpful if the shop owners had come up with a one size block. My various blocks were meant to be anywhere from an 8″ block to a 9″ block. At this point, I’m not real sure how that will work. For now, I’ll make the blocks and see how many of each I have.
I am feeling so much better that DH is getting a turn at feeling the bug. It’s really difficult to not try to get right back in the swing of things, but remembering that people seem to get this twice in a month, is slowing me down a bit.
Knitting and house work
Housework:
How did all this housework pile up with me down and no children living here? It’s unbelievable! OK, I started with sweeping floors this morning, then the laundry, got breakfast, and more tidy up. Then a brief rest. Window washer came and oh, my! the dirt I can see with clean windows and the sun sparkling through them – I did sweep one of the floors again, but most of it will just have to wait. I’m still moving too slowly. I sat down and enjoyed my email and then it was lunch time, then rest time. Did you notice anywhere here where I have done any sewing? Me either. DH thought I should take up the knitting needles and stay put. Maybe a good idea, but then the dog got out because the delivery man didn’t close the gate. However, dog came back before DH got outside, because he – the dog – really wanted to see me. So I spent some time brushing him, which was all he wanted – cuddle time. And I have 5300 steps on my Fitbit . DH wants to know how that happened when I didn’t take a walk. I bet all you women know without asking.
KNITTING:
Three rows of knitting were accomplished. Three little rows. And I had the “whole” afternoon to knit and while I rested all morning. Sometimes my head spins, but one has to laugh to stay sane.
A single block
I’m trying to get rid of this nasty stuff. I came to the sewing room to work on this 13 year old ufo. Normally with the time I had this afternoon, I would have been able to finish about 6 blocks. Not today. Thank you for your prayers and know that I am trying to get well. (I’m being told that most people get this again within the month and I am so trying not to be one of them.
Sick leave until further notice
I managed to get a very nasty head cold which has kept me in bed yesterday and today.
“GoFor” -my new name
I don’t remember applying for the job, but “GoFor” seems to be my new name this week. Another fun day started with me dressed to go to the gym and then the dog escaped through the gate before I did I did not know that he had escaped the pasture. So instead of gym, I went dog hunting. It was enough exercise getting him back home. He seems to think that our little bit of land isn’t enough and he should check out at the very least 10 neighbors and their land. About the time I got him home, the fellow erecting our fence showed up, so he checked the pasture and repaired the “hot” wire so it is now very hot. Both dogs respect the heat and will not dig under the wire.
Then the real “GoFor” started” more posts, more nails, rebar, brackets, wire, etc. Do you think that I would find it all in one store? Think again. First I had to return the bad posts from the load yesterday and come back with some replacements. Then to another store, that didn’t have the brackets and it was off to a different store (of course, farther away) to get the brackets and other items. Then back home at noon to fix lunch. After lunch, I finally had time to get the groceries. And yes, I did make it home by 4 to feed the sheep.
Before I left I made these two blocks from my “Shop Hop 2004” collection. This is a quilt I want to finish in January. Each block is from a different store and each store had their own pattern. I would really like to finish the top this coming week. But time will tell.
After a week like this, it is so wonderful that God has prepared a special time of rest and renewal. Happy Sabbath to all of you.

Zigzagular socks #1 and a menu
Zigzagular socks from Prairie Girl Designs is my first bit of knitting this year. I really don’t need another project, but I don’t have any boms in the knitting world. I finish each one I start for fear I’ll forget where I am in the pattern or even how to do the pattern. Plus this is one of the knitting projects I have on my list for this year. Even though I had trouble with the last Knitpicks yarn, I’m giving them another try because I have it. I will have to call them tomorrow because uncharacteristically they have not contacted me back. It may have something to do with the season and their sales.
I could get so much more done if I could just stay home. Today, I went to get more posts for the fence. Then the hole driller was acting up, so I got to take that to the repair shop and ask them about it and I was supposed to get some brackets to hold the cross bars by the gates, but will do that tomorrow after gym. Oh, and I have to exchange 4 of the posts because they didn’t pass inspection here.
Menu
All of this makes it very difficult to get anything done. So I asked my DH to please make a menu of what he would like to eat. This is what he wrote. When I questioned him about lack of variety, he said he thought I just wanted him to write down what he would eat if he had to cook. So now we know! But then he has salad on his list, so he must have looked in the refrigerator and found that I had some made. And he can make oatmeal, dish granola if it’s already made, open soups, microwave potatoes. Looks like he won’t starve if I give up cooking. That’s something to think about.
Phone woes
The man at AT&T spent about an hour trying to determine what was wrong with my phone. He put a new sim card in and hooked it up to a machine that reads what your phone has been doing. However, he could not make it work, so sent me another 15 minutes down the road to the Apple repair shop.
As you can see, they are very busy – all the time. They did squeeze me in about half an hour after I arrived because AT&T had called and we had an appointment. After a very long intensive look inside the phone, they decided to wipe it clean and download the operating system again. Then we had to wait more time for everything to download back onto the phone. Now the phone part works again and I can call and receive calls. There are still several apps that have to be reinstalled. I left home at 9.30 for AT&T and left this store at 2.30 – 5 hours so far for phone repair today.
No photo here, but then I went to Joann’s and get this: It is January and the minimum wage has taken effect. JoAnn’s has cut their employee hours way back, so where there were three clerks, there is now one. I took a number at the “cutting” table. There were 12 people in front of me with one cutting clerk.
Clerk: “No. 71” 71 steps up and she has a nice visit while having a yard of fabric cut.
Clerk: “No. 72” waits, calls again and waits again, then goes to loud-speaker and says “would #72 come to the cutting table” Then she waits – not working – just waiting. Finally, she calls #73 and visits with her while cutting and beyond. This went on and some of the people left. But she still went through the calling and waiting game. I had #81 and I needed that yard of fabric or I would have been one that left.
Now to check out of the store. Here there are 13 people in line and one cashier. No one left this line, but this clerk hustled and moved people through the line. So a 10 minute trip took 50 minutes here. I got home for supper.
And this is the story of where my quilting time goes. I hope the rest of the items on my phone work. They will, won’t they?

I only put this off 10 years and now I know why. I have never made flowers with wired ribbon before and there must be tricks that I don’t know. I went to Joann’s to get some more ribbon with wire and they were out of the sizes and colors I need, so back to the original (I’m assuming) plan that I find a fine wire and sew it to the ribbon I do have. However, I forgot to look for the wire while I was there. I still need to put filling in the pillow before I start putting the flowers on it.
