Apples and bowls

Black Friday and I no longer have dates, so I moved on to other things.   Did you brave weather and crowds for a special priced item or two?   If you did, I’d love to know about it.

100# of apples are now all sauced and about half of that is now finished apple butter.   It seems to take longer than I remember it taking a few years ago.  Then there was a major cleaning job in the kitchen as I made some of the sauce each of several days without totally cleaning each time.   But now all is finished except the applesauce becoming apple butter in the slow cooker.

I was able to move on into the sewing realm.  These bowls are coming together one seam at a time.   Today I finished half the darts and then moved on to getting  this quilt on the machine.   My goal is to get it quilted and maybe finished before the end of the month which is this coming Thursday all ready.   Hard to believe isn’t it?

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving.

Our prayer is that you enjoy the company of loved ones near and far – knowing some may be by phone.

Our blessings have been too many to count this year.

We have a marvelous caring family and you, our friends.   We think of you often which at times gives us the energy to keep going.

We have freedoms, a roof over our heads, and warmth in our homes.

We have the enjoyment of pets and other animals, along with the luxury of being able to care for them.

We are daily thankful for the dirty dishes, dirty stalls, and messy house.  It means we have them.  And we’re thankful for the ability to clean them.  Each are blessings.

But most of all we are thankful for a Heavenly Father who has the hairs on our head numbered as well as wants the best for us.  He holds us when we waver and are weak.   He still holds our hands even when we don’t realize we need Him.  We pray we will honor Him in our words and actions.

We pray this next year will be one of Blessings for you and your loved ones.

Citrus trees and hay delivery

The Meyers lemon tree is blooming.   I’m hoping it has lots of lemons to go with These wonderful looking limes.  There is also an orange tree which is just sitting and looking at us.  The citrus trees share the dining room with us during the freezing months.

These funny hens apparently want to be shelved.

And finally the 8 AM hay delivery arrived at 6 PM.  However it was not what we ordered and when opened, only about half was good hay.   They are returning on Monday to pick it up.   Hopefully, we both learned from this.   He will be more honest and I will open the bales and look in the middle before any are unloaded

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL AMERICANS and those from other countries, have a great Nov 23rd.

applesauce and barn work

Today, I finished processing the first 60 of 100 pounds of apples.     This afternoon, I did rearranging in the barn to get ready for a load of hay, which is supposed to be delivered in the morning.   This is not too exciting for most of you.  However, having enough hay to get through the winter will be exciting for me.

Applesauce, raisins and darts

All the 40 of these have the darts cut now and are sitting at the machine ready to sew.40# of apples are now applesauce with another 60# in the wings.  I’d like to finish before Thanksgiving, but that won’t happen.

The crockpot is full as DH really enjoys the apple butter and that’s what much of this applesauce will become. And then the raisins!  I have had my dehydrators about 35 years and they have been very busy during those years.   One quit heating and the other got way to hot, so I now need to replace both of the heaters.   However the company has gone out of business, so I’m looking at other options.

For your enjoyment:  There are times the hay ends up on  someone’s back because they move just as I toss it.   As you can see, the one on top really didn’t care where the hay was as long as it was accessible.   She was quite willing to jump up on a back.

Sewing with Mary

The morning started with a trip to the grocery.   We use a lot of bananas in this house and we were out.

After lunch Mary came over and we had a great time choosing fabrics for these bowl cozies

I think we have enough 10″ squares cut now.  We need one for the top and another for the bottom of the bowl.   And we sewed a piece of the batting to each square.

Next time, I will cut the darts out and sew them closed.

Another 6 little (Lazy Girl pattern) Sweetpea pods are now in the gift basket.  Little by little, we get the sewing done.

This fellow wanted to show you the latest style in garlands.

And here you can see what I saw this morning.   The moles have invaded the pasture

A birthday and Friday

It’s Friday already and I am a bit  much behind this week.   We are already past the middle of the month and I have not achieved much on my list.  And my house keeping skills are now in question.  Maybe Sunday, I can visit the sewing studio again.

The hoop house is now watered and the Swiss Chard has been picked.  Next week I’ll pick the parsley and the kale.  Since the weather is staying mild, foods are still growing.

We did get 3 loads of laundry done and the floors are swept and mopped.   The animals are fed.  Sabbath has come and the rest will wait.

We are truly blessed that we even have a house to be concerned about when there are so many without.  In addition, our children have blessed us with their extra caring and company throughout this past week.  We realize once again how important our loved ones are.    Hug yours often.

We had a wonderful time at the birthday party at Paneras. – Of course, I was having such a good time that I forgot to take photos.   But the ladies all loved the bowl cozies and the zucchini relish that I tucked inside.  And we had a good visit.   We only get to see each other annually, so have a lot of catching up to do.

Shabbat Shalom to each of you.

Home again, Hurray! and Felici

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts.  We appreciated them.

This machine records echocardiograms.  It is fascinating to watch the heart as it pumps.  No problem with DH’s heart.   And truthfully I’m not sure what we are going to do differently.  He is back to normal now and the doctor said with exercise, the body will create new pathways to take the place of those that were blocked.  That leaves me not knowing how to try to prevent this in the future or when to know if there is trouble.

So what does one do when needing to relax?  Obviously, go to the sewing studio and sew.   There is a luncheon we are invited to tomorrow and the 4 ladies involved in the company will be there.  So I thought perhaps they would each like a pair of bowl cozies.   (https://craftwarehouse.com/sew-this-soup-bowl-cozy-free-pattern)  They are now ready to wrap.   It helped a lot that they were all cut out.

PS> Knitpicks has the Felici yarn back

Hospital Adventures

Just an update because I haven’t been here this week.   Monday morning DH woke up unable to get out of bed.  The neighboring nurse came over to check on him.  He has been in the hospital all week.   The Dr. says DH has been having silent mini-strokes, possibly over several weeks.  She believes that this and the Parkinson’s are both responsible for his condition.  We plan to go home tomorrow and get back to our normal schedule by the end of the week.  Thanks for understanding.

Uncharted territory

Is this as much uncharted territory for you as it is for us?   It was like we were in a foreign country speaking a foreign language.  The doctor suggested that there have been good outcomes using this for Parkinsonian symptoms without the side effects of pharmaceuticals.  I must admit we were out of our comfort zone.   But DH will try it for a month and see if he gets better sleep and appetite as well as having better balance.   Any one of those would be more than he can get from the medications now offered.  If this is something you have had experience with, I’d truly appreciate it if you would share.

I have started making the bowl cozies.  They will take a bit of time, but I’m liking them and they are reversible which is terrific.   I put the website for making them on yesterday’s blog.
