Less than exciting day

IMG_0067sFor my less than exciting day, I worked on these Zigzagular socks – a pattern from Prairie Girl – this morning.   However, there were so many interruptions that when I picked them back up this afternoon, I had made so many mistakes, I took them back just over an inch – just pulled all the stitches off, stopped breathing, unraveled and put them back on again.  And that is where they will spend the night.   Tomorrow is errand day, so I doubt I will get back to them.   I think they really want to be a two month project.

January sock progress

IMG_0007January sock progress is like molasses.   Very slow going.   I am now half way through the heel flap.  No the socks will not be finished in January as I originally planned.   I’ll have to see what is scheduled for February = hopefully no more illness so that I can get February’s socks done and go back and finish these.

I spent about 4 hours this morning, moving furniture and cleaning floors under machines.  Sweeping, mopping, discarding, put bolts and other fabrics away all takes time.  So we took the afternoon off and spent another 5 hours, grocery shopping, and having AT&T tell me why the phone wasn’t working.   Amazingly they couldn’t get it to misbehave and so far it is still working.  I had planned to get an ice cream cake at Dairy Queen for the party Saturday evening, but their idea of a an ice cream cake, was a layer of vanilla topped with a layer of chocolate and then frosted like a cake.   So we went to Baskin Robbins and bought pizza like pies.   They have a big chocolate cookie on the bottom and are filled with ice cream and cut into 8ths.   That should be easy to handle at the party.   (Yes, there is vegan cake and ice cream for those that choose.)

Knitting update

IMG_0070s The Zigzagular socks are finally seeing some attention.  I have just under half the leg worked now.  Slow as a tortoise on this project, but the tortoise did make his goal.   I just won’t have these done by the end of the month.  I’m using a Knitpick yarn again and so far have not had  any problems with it.   It is also very soft.

2004 Shop Hop Blocks

IMG_0035a IMG_0036s IMG_0037s 2004 Shop Hop Blocks:

I am at the point where not all the pieces that are attached to that particular pattern make sense.    I do need to make 6 more blocks to complete a top and since I do not have 6 more patterns, but I do have an extra package of pieces, I’ll make one up.    A complete quilt is better than a ufo, right?  And when one gets these patterns, one usually only gets some of the pieces, therefore, I also will be coming up with some extra pieces to complete some of the patterns.    However, this quilt top will soon be done and on a hanger which is so much closer to someone being able to use it.IMG_0038s

On another note:  I received these two skeins of yarn from Knitpick in place of the ones with dyes that didn’t come through.   They are really very nice to work with.

PS:   The weather promises to be warmer tomorrow – meaning above freezing day and night for a time.   I’d so much rather rain than freezing.

Knitting and house work

Housework:

How did all this housework pile up with me down and no children living here?   It’s unbelievable!   OK, I started with sweeping floors this morning, then the laundry, got breakfast, and more tidy up.   Then a brief rest.  Window washer came and oh, my! the dirt I can see with clean windows and the sun sparkling through them – I did sweep one of the floors again, but most of it will just have to wait.  I’m still moving too slowly.  I sat down and enjoyed my email and then it was lunch time, then rest time.   Did you notice anywhere here where I have done any sewing?   Me either.   DH thought I should take up the knitting needles and stay put.  Maybe a good idea, but then the dog got out because the delivery man didn’t close the gate.   However, dog came back before DH got outside, because he – the dog –  really wanted to see me.   So I spent some time brushing him, which was all he wanted – cuddle time.   And I have 5300 steps on my Fitbit .  DH wants to know how that happened when I didn’t take a walk.   I bet all you women know without asking.

KNITTING:

IMG_0013aThree rows of knitting were accomplished.   Three little rows.  And I had the “whole” afternoon to knit and while I rested all morning.  Sometimes my head spins, but one has to laugh to stay sane.

Zigzagular socks #1 and a menu

img_0007a

Zigzagular socks from Prairie Girl Designs is my first bit of knitting this year.  I really don’t need another project, but I don’t have any boms in the knitting world.   I finish each one I start for fear I’ll forget where I am in the pattern or even how to do the pattern.  Plus this is one of the knitting projects I have on my list for this year.    Even though I had trouble with the last Knitpicks yarn, I’m giving them another try because I have it.   I will have to call them tomorrow because uncharacteristically they have not contacted me back.   It may have something to do with the season and their sales.

I could get so much more done if I could just stay home.  Today, I went to get more posts for the fence. Then the hole driller was acting up, so I got to take that to the repair shop and ask them about it and I was supposed to get some brackets to hold the cross bars by the gates, but will do that tomorrow after gym.  Oh, and I have to exchange 4 of the posts because they didn’t pass inspection here.

Menu

All of this makes it very difficult to get anything done.   So I asked my DH to please make a menu of what he would like to eat.   This is what he wrote.   When I questioned him about lack of variety, he said he thought I just wanted him to write down what he would eat if he had to cook.   So now we know!   But then he has salad on his list, so he must have looked in the refrigerator and found that I had some made.   And he can make oatmeal, dish granola if it’s already made, open soups, microwave potatoes.   Looks like he won’t starve if I give up cooking.   That’s something to think about.

Popsicle socks #1 finished

img_0139s

This is a Prairie Girl design called Swirl-E.  It has both a written pattern and a chart for those who prefer charts.  These were easy socks to make.   The thing that took the longest was finding the time this month to sit down and do them.   I’m really happy with them, but not with the yarn from Knit Picks   It had 2 breaks where they knotted the yarn and there were places where one color did not take all the way through.   Tomorrow, I will send them the photos and see how they want to deal with it.   They are usually a very accommodating company.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Swirl E aka Popsicle socks

img_0135sI really pushed for time to work on these “popsicle socks” as I wanted to get them done by the end of the month.   And you know how soon that is and how much we always want to get done before  a holiday.  It would be  wonderful to go into the new year with a clean house and meals all planned for the month and more projects finished, but I will be happy if these socks get completed.   I just have the toe to finish, so it is possible.

Tomorrow the plan is for the fellow to come help me put up the fence.  And hopefully the grandchildren will be here one day before the end of the year.  With them in school, it is a bit more complicated to see them during the school year.

Report on the juice fast which only lasted 10 days – we just dropped out at that point.   However, I feel better than I have since before the ankle surgery last Christmas and DH found his sinuses cleared up.   So we felt it was worth doing.  Now we are trying to eat as much of our food raw as we can.

More canning and knitting

img_5710sMore canning today – the beans – pinto, great northern, and garbanzos –  for now are finished.   And while waiting on the pressure canner,

img_5709f

I did more knitting on these socks.   I am now ready to start the heel flap.   But if tomorrow is a nice day, I’ll be outside.

img_5707sJust look at the beautiful sunset the Lord prepared for us to enjoy as we were preparing the sheep for the night.  There are massive benefits to caring for animals.

Swirl E socks begun

img_5689w

I have begun the next pair of socks = the Swirl E socks.   This yarn is Knit Picks “Felici” rainbow and the pattern is a Prairie Girl Design by Susie White which is free on Ravelry.  With all this gray weather, I’m enjoying knitting with the spring colors and they are knitting up fast.   The yarn is nice and soft even though it is a superwash fiber of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon.

We did go to the gym this morning and then grocery shopping for the last minute items.   I also spent several hours on the computer doing research.   Tomorrow, we are going to our daughter’s and enjoy the family and friends.   One of our children and family will be missing since they are on a trip to Israel.  But we’ll get together for Christmas.

To all our American friends:  Enjoy a

Happy Thanksgiving and drive carefully.
