A Knitters gifts – mittens

Today seemed like a good day to tackle these 6 paper pieced mittens for this  quilt.    Paper piecing is still difficult for me, so they took much longer than I think they should have.   So only 2 of the 6 are finished.

Then I was back to normal things such as picking raspberries, a trip to the grocery, etc.   I am so happy tomorrow is a rest day.

September’s Sew Fun Infomercial

Gail had many items to show us today -enough to make it difficult to know where to start.   So we’ll start with the books.   The first was “Adorable Animal Applique”   in which there are absolutely the cutest little animals  in three themes and suggestions as to how to use them.   The themes:  jungle, underwater, and cute monsters.  There were bibs, blankets, bannersP1020282pillowcases, and other items, using raw edge appilique.

Another book was called “Kimberbell Halloween, which as the name implies was very Halloween oriented with various projects.  These are two wall hangings and a bag.

P1020284

P1020289

From  Smith Street design, there were CDs with applique designs for greeting cards.   Simple and easy to make.

She brought in some red glasses through which it was interesting to look at fabric.   They turned the colors into darks, medium and light.   Some of them really surprised me.

P1020278

Pearly  Gates does good with mylar and this time, they sent samples of leaves and autumn designs.   Both of these were made into quilts.

P1020286

I believe this quilt is from “Table Please, part 2” but may be from above.

P1020287

Isn’t’ this a cute Bitty Buddy waste can to take to  class for your trimmings?

P1020279

There were other items there without photos, such as a reading light, ruler cutting combo, other patterns, one of which was the BQ series.   I have made and love the first one of this series, though I’m not as impressed with the next three.   But I’m sure others love them.

Not to leave out clothing here is a Simply Elegant Tee which has several lengths of shirt and of sleeve

“Tell it to the Stars” quilt top + garden

This is the finished “Tell it to the Stars” quilt top.   It took parts of three days to assemble it, but it turned out to be a nice masculine quilt top.   It has a green edge all around it, which is difficult to see because my quilt wall is a bit small.

P1020262 tell it to the stars top

And these are the garden boots and shoes I could not get a colored photo to show you yesterday.  I did want you to see how pretty they are BEFORE the mud season.

 P1020260 boot n shoes

So after finishing the quilt top, I went outside to pick food.   Here is the first thing I saw.   Yes, this bantam outwitted us and has two small chicks.

So back to picking veggies.   5 cantaloupes – personal size

two gallons of green beans

 P1020267 2 gallon green beans

about 2 quarts of raspberries

and not shown about 40 pounds of apples.    We will pick more in 2 weeks or sooner.  It was a full day.

SEAHAWKS DAY (not winners) and cantaloupe

I didn’t know if  cantaloupe would grow in this area or not, but since the summer was so warm, I thought I’d give it a try.   They were late getting into the ground and didn’t get the fertilizer attention needed, but there are quite a few of these little ones.  I would call them personal size.   This is a teaspoon sitting beside it.  We picked 4 of them today.   Well, picked isn’t the best word, because they had already disengaged from the plant.  We simply picked them up.

P1020238 cantaloupe

The one we opened today was a bit overripe, but we enjoyed it anyway.   Tomorrow we’ll try another one.

Seahawk’s day is almost like a national holiday around here this year.   And all because they had a great year last .  We were invited to our oldest son’s new place and I took my knitting.   I am now nearly up to the heel.

And I had some time this morning to put the quilt blocks in some sort of order.  So here you see a very rough idea of “Tell it to the Stars”

An ordinary day?

Maybe, that is if there is such a thing, this was almost ordinary.   I had a doctor’s appointment early this morning for a curling toenail.   Somehow, between being early, the visit, the x-ray to make sure there were no spurs, and then going back to the doctor to make an appointment to have him remove the nail temporarily, we used up 2.5 hours.    That was bad enough, but to make things really interesting, I managed to forget to turn off the lights when we arrived.    It was just getting light when I left home, and very much daylight when I arrived there.    So the next nearly two hours was spent relaxing while we waited for AAA to come with jumper cables.   By the time we arrived home, it was noon and time to do the lunch tasks.

A FINISH!

While DH was staining the back side of the deck – all 70 feet of it, (10-14 feet wide),

I was sewing and was so happy to be able to finish this top.    I’m quite happy with the way it turned out and in the future will probably make a couple more for the military hospital.

Studying, sewing, and peppers

As you can see, I now have the 4 bottom rows put together.   I haven’t had a much time as I have been doing a lot of research on recipes for favorite foods no longer on the Celiac menu.

P1020187 vstars of honor

There I stopped as these peppers were calling me.   They are washed and several chopped and on the dehydrator.   A huge pan of them is cut, deseeded, and sitting in the refrigerator until Sunday when I will finish them.   The plan is to freeze them so they will be easy to add to salsa and it can be put together as we need it.

Stars of Honor

This whole day felt like “the morning after”.    However, I did get some work done on this Stars of Honor BOM today

P1020185 stars of honor

I still have the top and bottom rows to put together and then sew the rows together.   The plan is to finish the top by the end of next week.    Of course there are many other items contending for the time.  But I do know that if I have a project and all the parts laid out where I don’t have to look for anything to complete it, it usually gets done in a reasonable time.     So I need to go through the other things that I want to make and be sure that all the components are in one place.   Sometimes just looking for the pattern stalls me.

September!    Do you  realize that we are nearing the Christmas season again.   Time is once again flashing by.  I really need to sew more clothes for the dolls for the giving tree and get the pillowcases done and I have fleece for more baby hats in purple, and some quilts to make.    How are you doing?

P1020184 scarf finished Knitters gifts.

The scarf is now finished!   I know I thought I could get it done before the end of August, but that just didn’t happen.  However, it is finished now and I can move on.

Produce time

Picking produce was very high on my list today, so I picked tomatoes and canned 5 quarts

P1020157 tomatoes

The small ones were roasted for tomato sauce.

P1020158 tiny tomatoes

The green beans are waiting in the refrigerator until Sunday for their turn – except for the ones we had with lunch.  They were so tender and delicious..

P1020159 string beans

Can you see these small cantaloupes?   Oh, I do hope they will get big enough.   I didn’t really think they would grow, but planted them anyhow.

P1020160 cantaloupe

There were two quarts of raspberries that didn’t get their photo taken as they went straight into the freezer.     While turning over a bit of ground to plant garlic Sunday, I found that we had missed some of these red potatoes some of which were consumed at lunch.P1020161 red potatoes

Sunday will be another garden day, but weeding this time.
