I found these darling little knit hearts on Ravelry as a free download. It is too late to have time to knit them for this year, but they would make a small delightful summer project. If you click on the photo, it will take you to the Ravelry site

Here’s another fun idea. U made these a couple years ago and don’t see that they are still available. But you can put the words in your embroidery machine or do it by hand. Just sew around, stuff and close the hole you on the side where you inserted the stuffing.

Socks and tomato sauce & yarn in

I keep hoping at least one of you will join me in making a pair of socks. Here is the latest finish,

My splurge. I had no cotton yarn and wanted to do some dish and washcloths.

It took 3 days to cook down the tomatoes (from the freezer) into sauce. I like it to cook to about 1/2 what I started with before I process it. I have 9 pints this time with more tomatoes in the freezer that will become sauce before summer comes. It is so much better to be able to do this while the weather is cool.

Some days I don’t feel like much has been achieved because a some of several things were done. To day we planted 85 daffodils here beside the grapes because I didn’t want to go to all the trouble of digging up grass where I wanted them and they are getting in so late. But I didn’t want to lose them. They will be done blooming before the grapes need the room, so they won’t interfere with each other. Maybe in the fall, I can “get a better start” or I may just like some color where they are. (the dark area). In another place we put the last 15 tulips. The ones planted at the right time are now coming up.

We picked up some starting soil and other items at the wholesale house.

I put a quilt on the frame to quilt. And I started the binding on another quilt. Then I cast on for another pair of socks, – a number of starts today, but now I need finishes.

Bit by bit, I’m getting these socks knit. It seems I only get 1/2 dozen rows done in a day. That is small, but continuing forward.

I planted more than necessary of these cold weather crops because the seeds have been sitting in a very warm room for more than a year and I didn’t expect them to do well. (The peppers in the cups aren’t up yet) So tomorrow, I’m moving the cold weather seedlings to the hoop house. I’d like to get them planted, but that may have to wait until Monday or after.

Yes, they lost. But there’s another year and quite honestly, I thought the teams were well matched.

Here is a great humus recipe: 2 cups canned garbanzos drained, 1/3 cup sunflower seeds, 1 T lemon juice, add seasonings. Blend well.

I did get this quilt on the machine and ready to quilt

And I have now turned the heel and am working the insteps.

This Christmas quilt was a 2014 BOM and is completed.

5 of these quilts have been completed and though they are all 40″ wide, they vary in length between 44 and 60′ Today 4 of them were gifted to the church for street mission. I used a heavy batting and since the night temperatures are in the 30s, I’m sure they are welcome.

This was a quick quilt using 4″ squares

“The Grim Ripper” is a 9 x 12″ wall hanging that only needed quilting and binding.

Hedgehog needed the key ring sewn back on (10 year job) and the two little coin purses have gone to a friend who loves blue.

The pot holder is a prototype for some I will do in Seahawk colors with logos. (WE WILL WIN!)

These are the first pair of finished socks this year.

January 28, I planted Endive, Escarole, lettuce, and broccoli in the back containers. Today’ they are peeking. Yesterday. I planted tomatoes and peppers in these cups. They are inside and under lights since we could still have a very cold February.

In addition, the apples and grapes are pruned, a good share of the bark has been laid and the front flower bed is ready for annuals.

On the needles report – Jan 29, 2015

These are the Summer Solst socks by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer. In between everything else that happened this week, I now have knitted up to the heel and have the heel setup done.

I’m going back through a book called The Sock Calendar – Socks for all Seasons. I enjoyed knitting the socks when I purchased the book and have worn some of them out. So it will be fun to knit them in different colors and fibers.

Starting a new pair of socks

Since I spent a good part of the day taking inventory of the seeds I have, and trying to decide how much we eat in a year so I know how many seeds to order, I gave myself the treat of starting another pair of socks. They are self striping, so I think I’ll just go with the stockinette stitch and keep them handy for when I don’t have to think, such as when I’m a passenger in the car or have chatty company.

I love starting and finishing socks. Sometimes I enjoy the knitting between the beginning and end and sometimes I just do it unconsciously. This color is “Puzzle” from the “Sock it to me” collection made for Elann.com It is 25% nylon so will readily go through the washer and dryer. Although it has the same number of yards in a skein as most of the other sock yarns I use, it feels lighter, so will make a great pair of summer socks.

Basket Weave Rib socks

These “Basket Weave Rib socks” by Sezza Knits are now done. It has been a while since I knit on size one needles, so it seemed these took a long time. Then also we had Christmas holidays during the same time. However they are done and I am very happy with them.

Starting a new pair of socks

Basket Weave Rib socks

These “Basket Weave Rib socks” by Sezza Knits are now done. It has been a while since I knit on size one needles, so it seemed these took a long time. Then also we had Christmas holidays during the same time. However they are done and I am very happy with them.

These socks certainly are slow knitting, but they are moving along. Of course, I also worked some on quilting which isn’t ready yet.

The other thing I did was to take in 2 webinars. Have you done that? I enjoy them. Today’s was one on small farms and the other on cooking.
