I love good, fresh, sweet Red Haven peaches. We brought home
40# yesterday and today after eating some and putting some in the refrigerator to eat fresh,

I canned 40 pints. As we open each jar during the winter, it will help to bring back summer memories. Peckham pears will probably be the last of this summers canning.

I received a surprise package in the mail. Well, first it was surprise email asking for my address. I don’t remember entering anything, but that’s okay, I’m very happy to receive these 4 balls of cotton yarn for dishcloths. They are all new to me and oh, so soft.

And she included pretty stitch markers – something I didn’t have. It was fun opening these and will be fun using them. Janet runs the yahoo monthly dishcloth group and maybe selects from members to send out such wonderful gifts.
My cousin has been cleaning out items she thinks she no longer needs and has sent me several doll clothes books. Interestingly enough not a one of them has been a duplicate of what I have. Now I need to get busy and trace patterns so I can make clothes. Christmas will soon be here and I want some little girls to be happy.
Today, the plan was to go to Seattle (an hour drive) to get some organic peaches. I got about 5 miles from home when the car shuddered, started shaking, and sounded horrible. So I called DH – cell phones are wonderful – and he came to my rescue. We took it to our mechanic fearing the worst. However, a spark plug had worked loose and that bill was only $70. As long as the car was there, we had the annual service done, so now I’m ready for the winter and nothing should go wrong. I do like to have the car trustworthy as there is no other service here in case of emergency.
We did get the peaches while the car was being serviced. After coming home, we took my computer in for a new hard drive. The technician argued that he didn’t think it was a hard drive problem, even though the Geek squad did think so. He talked me into leaving it there for a week so they can check it out. I nearly had a heart attack over being without it for a week I have this little laptop, but if I save any messages on here, I can’t get them into the proper folders when the desktop comes back.
We went to Panera’s for lunch after taking the computer in. This was the first time they really scrambled our orders. When I asked the manager if they had new help, he said several were new and offered us a free meal next time we come in.
My days always seems so full and I wonder why. Maybe it’s just all these little interferences. I was able to do a bit of sewing and spinning which I find relaxing. But nothing was finished. I’ll get some photos tomorrow when I figure out how to load them on this computer. I have some really terrific sticky stuff to show you – stay tuned.
Why is it necessary to shop – or for that matter to clean house or cook meals? All that just gets in the way of fun. Or maybe we are just mixed up – people used to work for food and it was a real treat if there was anything left for pleasure.

It’s Wednesday and time to plan. So I pulled out the stack of recipes I’ve printed from the internet that I wanted to try and put 7 meals for breakfast and about 10 for lunches and dinners, then made a grocery list from those plus things that one does get low on such as toilet paper. Oh, the things on which we must spend money!

Today it was off to Marlene’s, a health food and vitamin store, where they sell a few items I like and can’t find elsewhere.

Then Panera’s for a sandwich for lunch.

Costco has chocolate chips without dairy that we like as well as better prices on frozen corn, beans, broccoli.

And finally, the local grocery store which was advertising a number of organic foods on special this week. So we bought many items today and still – until I actually cook – the refrigerator is half empty. You probably understand this all too well. At least we stuck to the list I had made.

The chicken coop was first on the list this morning. I am grateful to have had help on that one. The coop is large, probably 16′ square and desperately needed shavings changed. Then the larger babies were taken out of the cage

and the wee bantams were moved into the house. After a week or so in there, they will also be released and the cage removed.

The greenhouse was also in desperate need, so I spent time out there.

Seems the potatoes were much smaller than they should have been and the ground was very dry, but I’ll take whatever help I can get. Now the tomatoes, beets, and celery are all weeded.

Walking by the artichokes, I see we have two of them ready, so brought them in

And we dug up the elephant garlic. I didn’t get another garlic planted last fall.

It is just as well, we didn’t get a lot of the garden planted this year. It is just so dry out there and even our pond, which dried up in August last year, is dry. In the past it has had some water in it all year. The pond is the bit in the background that has some green.
Early, I watered everything except the strawberries, garlic and potatoes (DH does those in the evening. Then we went to the farmer’s market, where we bought 2 more half flats of strawberries, some celery, yellow zucchini and tomatoes. I do enjoy the farmer’s market, but so far this year, I have only found one farmer that is not using treated seeds. I don’t need that insecticide in my body.
After lunch, I did some proof reading for my brother’s new book which will go to the printer this week.

Yes, I know I haven’t finished either the table runner or the quilt, but I was anxious to get started on this new quilt . Besides, my studio is cool, so afternoons are a wonderful time to be there. I now have 50 of these triangle squares done. I like doing parts of the quilt ahead, so when I come to that area, I can just sew them in place.
