Broken arrow quilt

IMG_3571The Broken Arrow quilt is done!.   It has been washed and dried and is ready for snuggles.

 IMG_3565

I joined Craftsy some time ago and purchased Joan Hawley’s class on “Zip it up” zipper techniques.    This has to be the easiest zipper I have ever put in.    I made this little “Runaround” bag to add to the tote for daughter’s birthday today.    She loved both bags.   Let me explain how being in a hurry helped – NOT!

First, because I watched the video awhile back, I didn’t bother to read the instructions or re-watch the video – that was the beginning of my hurry.    So I put the zipper on-inside out, took it out, and started over.   Glanced at instructions and put all the pieces together.   then I sewed the strap to the inside, fixed that.   Now, the outside back pocket is in the inside.    And I knew better, but being in a hurry, I didn’t think.    I just told her that I put a pocket inside.     So much for a hurry.    Please tell me you do things like this as well.      I love reading your comments, which  make me think we’re having a conversation.

Giraffe baby booties

IMG_3557

Some things never go out of style.    These were the only baby booties that stayed on my babies and I made dozens of these booties in various fabrics and colors.    With just a bit of fabric left from the giraffe quilt, I decided that a pair of booties might make this mother happy.

DH filled the feeder fairly tight and a bit above the sheep heads this time.    I thought it was cute how they made these little holes with their mouths.    Tomorrow this will all collapse as they eat more and the hay becomes loose.

A Birthday Tote

IMG_3554IMG_3553

Here is the front that I created and a panel I had that I could use for the back.

Our middle daughter is having a birthday Sunday.   She has several cats plus is very animal oriented.   I saw a picture of a bag similar to this and knew she would like it.  Then she told me that her purse was stolen 2 weeks ago, though it didn’t have much in it.  She uses the bus for transportation so a bag seemed like a good idea.

This has taken most of the day, because I made it up as I went along and the cats were a challenge.   I also wanted to use the panel on the back, so sized it accordingly.  It is fully lined with a 8″ inside pocket that has a bit of elastic in the top of it.   I sewed the pocket into a side for pencils etc and then the larger side.  The bag measures about 15″ square with a 3.5″ bottom.

Birthday pillowcases

Sometimes one just needs an interesting day, because otherwise life would go to smoothly.   Bill does his workout at the gym right after I do.   So when I finished and didn’t see him, I thought something was wrong.  It was.   He could not get the key out of the ignition.    So I gave him my keys and took his car to get looked at.   I had to leave the car there so called him to come get me when he was done, which he did.   Then we went to lunch and home again where I desperately tried to get these pillowcases done.    In the middle of this, we got the call, that they couldn’t get the key to stick, so come get the car and bring it in again when it sticks.    Now when I got there with the car, they couldn’t get it out either, so apparently, waiting awhile, the key lost weight or ???

I did get one of the pillowcases done.   The grandsons each have their own room and one was a bit disappointed that mom was not willing to spend the money for Seahawks sheets, blankets, etc.   Since his birthday is just after Thanksgiving, I  thought perhaps he would enjoy these Seahawk cases.    I put the Hawk up high on the band so it wouldn’t irritate his face while he sleeps.  Now to finish the other case, then wash, dry and wrap.

Sewing and craft show

Today was the “Rusty Barn” sewing and craft show.   Rusty Barn is the name of the company who puts the show on.   It is a smaller version of the big Expo Show the end of February.   I like to go to get things that aren’t available locally and also sometimes to find something new being introduced as well as just to get ideas.

IMG_3514IMG_3518I liked the frame on the first quilt and the colors in the second.

We left early afternoon and I came home to get this pillow made for Christian’s birthday.   The fabric has been looking at me for over a year and it was time to get it done while he is still crazy about dinos.

Scrap Hats

A bit of fleece from two different projects.   The Seahawk fabric was about a third of a yard and I was able to get 3 hats.   The orange fabric was left over from a blanket backing and I was able to get 10 baby hats out of that 1/2 yard plus.

Shopping and Sew fun

IMG_3407

After a delicious lunch of roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and zucchini patties, I was almost too full to carry on with the day.

 IMG_3425

However, Mary came over – do you like those spiders?   We went to Quality’s Sew Fun because we wanted free tickets to the Sew Expo in November and that was the gift for coming.

And we rather liked this apron display.

IMG_3421

The program consisted mostly of various handbags and a few table runners and potholders.   So we decided to go shopping  at JoAnn’s where we found some giraffe print fleece for Mary’s new grandson (arriving in Jan).    So now she and I each have another project.   She will be making stuffed giraffes and I will make baby a quilt.

Raincoats

IMG_3351

These  4 little raincoats just need little snaps down the front and they are done.

IMG_3348

And you must be as tired of canning as I am.  Today was 20 pints of split pea soup for DH.  Often times, that is all he wants for his third meal.    It makes life easier when he can just open a jar and heat the contents.

TGIF

IMG_3329

Another interesting day – but then, most days are interesting.    After canning another 5 pints of pears and going to the gym, Mary came over for lunch.   Then we opened the Scan-n-Cut.   Because neither of us was familiar with the machine, we actually had to read the directions which were given in 7 languages.   It was not a case of open and use.   We do need to take the lesson on how to operate it.    However, we did manage to get this 3.5″ square snowflake cut out of cotton.   I probably should put it on something I’ll save, since it is the first thing we managed.  We did sign up for the lesson which won’t be until early November.

IMG_3323

After giving up on the Scan-n-cut, I started sewing these little rain coats.   They also are a bit challenging as one makes and inner coat and an outer coat, sandwiching the hood between.  The sleeves and sides are not finished as there is also a ruffle to be put on the end of each sleeve.  The directions have one finishing the sides and then just tacking the ruffle on, but I will try to put it in the seam as I did on the hood.   I’m not sure why they didn’t do it that way, but it’s possible that I will find out and then the others will be done differently.   The first one is always the test case.

Scan N Cut 2

IMG_3322

About 3 weeks ago I ordered this new toy.   DH and I went shopping for a few things we wanted at Trader Joe’s and Costco, and then had lunch.   While we were having lunch, the call came that the Scan N Cut  had just come in and we were only about 5 minutes from the store, so we hurried up our lunch and went to pick it up.   Tomorrow Mary will be here and we will open and play with it.  If you aren’t acquainted with this fun machine, double-click on the red and watch the video in the middle of the page

After we picked up the Scan N Cut 2, we picked up our co-op order and came home to unpack the car.   It doesn’t take as much as it used to for me to get tired.   So there will be no sewing today.
