Koala quilt

It was cool out today, but sunny.   I love to sit by the window and spin with the sun coming through the window on my back.   Tomorrow by 4, the  temperature is forecast to get up to 75 and maybe up in the 80s late in the day on Wed and Thursday.   You people in the sunbelt have no idea how wonderful that sounds to those of us with webbed feet.    I  will take my knitting outside (when it warms up) and soak in as much sun as possible.

Here is the Koala quilt that I quilted today – It is only 48″ square so wheel chair or child sized.  It has been waiting it’s turn.

Here is the back, perhaps, if you enlarge it you can see the design of Australian wildlife.   This back is the same dark brown as the front, but the flash changed the color.   It still needs trimming and binding.

I have been asked how I get so much done.   First, it doesn’t seem to me that I do.  But I do push myself with lists and stern talking to get something done daily.

Today, after spinning most of the morning, then winding two hanks of yarn into balls, we ate a quick lunch and went to get some more beekeeping supplies.

We came home and I did the quilt which took 4 hours (but a lot longer working up to getting it done including deciding on the pattern) .  Then a quick trip to gather eggs and pen the animals (no choice there).

I convinced myself that whatever spray paint I could find in the garage would work just fine for the bee box I need tomorrow.   Chalkboard paint was the only thing I could find, so used it.  I  now have several white bee boxes and a black one.   In this case, done, was better than waiting to buy white paint as I need to give it to the bees tomorrow after it warms up.    There are 3 more to paint and I will buy paint before I need them.

Supper was left overs from other meals this week, so just had to warm them.

As you can see, I do what matters carefully and the other as quickly as possible.   Tomorrow, I have a morning appointment, after which I absolutely must fertilize the plants in the greenhouse.  (Many things get done out of last minute necessity)  If I get up early enough, I’ll get some sewing in, but I’m not counting on that happening.

I will attend to the bees in the afternoon which will take an hour and then enjoy knitting a new pair of socks in the sun and taking a walk.

Housework is only done under duress or when company is expected.   Unless, it really gets to me, then I’ll take the time to take care of the issue that is bothersome.   Most things get done on the way to doing something else – such as taking laundry to the machine on the way to breakfast.   A couple mornings a week are spent preparing food for the week.

Now it is 9 PM and I’m collapsing.    At 6 I’ll start this all over again.   I’m never bored and I hope you enjoyed this small look into my life.

Star tracks quilt

It’s done!   Completely done!     It measures 52 x 64″, so it is a nice nap size.

10103589finished star tracks

This has been on my quilting machine since the beginning of the month or maybe the last month and too many other things grabbed my attention.   However since it is on my list of things I wanted to accomplish this month, I started quilting it first thing this morning and bound it this afternoon.   It is Christmas fabrics, so I will put it aside for street mission or another donation closer to Christmas.

January’s block is all finished – including the stitching.   These take a bit of time, but aren’t difficult.   She still has the patterns up on line if you would like to make them.

April Sew Fun

It seems that the Sew Fun days are coming closer together – but I guess it’s really just that my days are full enough they pass quickly.    Today we were shown some Anita Goodesign products made up

P1010351 anita gooddesign plant markers

Here are some seed packets one might enjoy In the house.

P1010354 anita g silverware holder

And what a great way to have the silverware and napkins ready for each person at a picnic!

The teacher showed us an eyeglass case and then a beautiful baby quilt with Anita Goodesign Nursery rhyme designs.   What was really lovely about this quilt was the rhymes were actually part of the picture.   It made an unusual and beautiful baby quilt.

The switch was then made to talking about spring clothing of which I don’t have photos.   She had a few Nancy Zieman patterns and told us these patterns had excellent illustrations and are very easy to construct.   She also had some  simple gifts from “Sew Knits with confidence” by Nancy Zieman that were simple with a seam or two and looked quite attractive.

Mumm BOM for Mar/Apr done

Tired of cleaning, and with bad news to digest, I took time to do some more sewing.   Here are the results.   5 blocks from yesterday and 4 blocks from today.   These blocks are going together amazingly good.    And now,  I’m caught up on this BOM until next month.

Globetrotting

Here is the quilt on which I worked today.   I now am up to date on this block of the month project, though there are a few others to do.   This one is Pat Sloan’s Globetrotting and each block represents a country.   http://blog.patsloan.com/2013/12/pat-sloan-globetrotting-new-free-block-of-the-month.html

The first block is the big center block representing Washington D.C. that I showed you before.

P1010252 finished block

Then come the smaller blocks which will circle around the center.  The first is Venice.

P1010264

Then Chicago,

P1010265

then San Juan, Puerto Rico.

P1010266

Each block is a mystery until that month.

In between doing blocks, we had the windows washed, the water system worked on and the gate which is not working looked at – all done by someone else.   We went to the store for more bee food.

Starting Christmas

P1010149 more rain

We drove up to see our daughter and family in more of this.   I’m so ready for some bright rainless days.

P1010150 charity dolls

These are the dolls that I ordered (on sale) for Christmas charity.   They will be packaged with a wardrobe for Christmas.    I think they are rather cute and we have a lot of Native Americans in this area.   Below is one standing next to my American Girl model.

Little things and sherbet socks

Oh look!   We just started a new month – tomorrow I’ll have my monthly list to show you.

This morning was filled with lots of small things.    These are the little things that don’t seem too important, but somehow putting them off turns them into a big job.   By little things, I’m talking about the tax papers that needed to be put away, the magazines that needed to go downstairs, the credit card that was misplaced because I didn’t deal with it immediately and it got “lost” under other papers.   It seemed as if they were all ready to multiply if not done immediately.   It only takes a minute at the time it comes up, and maybe that’s why it doesn’t seem too important to do it just then.   However, these “little” things seem to reproduce and soon I have a big pile of things with which to deal.   So I’m trying to deal with these things immediately.    I hope someone whose reading this can relate.

.

Last night I knit up to the toes on the socks

 P1010127 finished sherbet socks

Then I knitted on the toes while we were going to  meet the dog food coop driver.   So when we got home, I stitched the ends together and they are ready to wear.   They are really happy socks!

P1010126 panera sallad and roll

On the way to pick up the dog food, we made a lunch detour at Paneras.   This is Bill’s favorite place to eat.   I had this lovely big salad and a whole wheat bun and Bill enjoyed their black bean soup with a veggie sandwich.       This gave us the go power we needed to start another project when we got home.

P1010128 started weeding hill

This is another “little”, but a very different one.    What looks like a shadow here is actually where we weeded.  This project we will do a bit on each non rainy day until we have the  weeds out.   It is a shady spot under the big cedar tree.    Weeds do okay there, but I have not yet found other plants that are happy in this situation.    I’d really like some perennials.   Do you have any ideas?

Spring chicks, plants, bees

For you who are watching the health series, tonight is #3.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKCn_-LAChQ

The transplants are now in their new temporary pots. They will again get transplanted when the weather is warm enough.   The peas haven’t come up, so will have to plant those again along with starting more seeds.    Why is it so difficult to plant just the right number of seeds.   If I plant just a few, they don’t come up, if I plants many, it seems most of them come up.

P1010121polish

The little Polish caps are really getting cute

P1010120 feathering chick

Can you see how much the babies have grown?    The chicks have feathers now and one of them insists on hopping up to the side of the container and over to the great outside world.   They have been moved to another room  and tomorrow will get screening over the top.

P1010123 3 buckets

They have grown enough I have separated them into 3 containers and soon will have to be 4.    Then they will graduate to the chicken coop to get acquainted with the adults.   Yes, I’ll have to put chicken wire around them to protect them until they get bigger, but I’ll love having them out of the house.

P1010119 beehives

It’s a good thing I take these photos as I go through my day.  Otherwise, by the time I get to the end, I forget where I started.    Today it was with the beehives.   2 of the 3 hives didn’t make it through the winter.    I have talked to other beekeepers and it seems that about 3/4 of the bees this year didn’t make it.   They are blaming it on the poor blackberry crop.   The bees didn’t get enough put away for the winter.   When I opened the two hives, there was no honey left in them and very few dead bees.    So apparently that’s what happened.   I don’t know, maybe when they run out of food, they go searching even though it is too cold.
