Pumpkins and Owls

Our daughter and DH is hosting the annual Thanksgiving dinner.   She always does a lovely job of decorating.  This year I am contributing, with the help of the dollar store, these pumpkins. They now all have her last initial.

And here is an owl for each of the boys.  They may enjoy the owls on their doors and they may finish decorating them or leave them as is.

Giraffe #2 finished

IMG_3506

This is for Mary’s grandson, Tristan,  due to be born before January 6th.   The exact date is, of course, unknown.   But they are hoping to get through Christmas first.    Mary digitized and embroidered the face for it.   I did the rest of the quilt.  So it is a co-operative effort.  It still needs to be washed, but there is a whole month for that.

Baby Giraffe quilt completed

IMG_3502

I used fleece on the back and brought it around to the front and sewed it down.    Usually when fleece is used on the back, it doesn’t need a batting which means just tacking or tying the front and back together here and there.   This is destined for a small child in the fire burned area which is much colder so it does have a sheet of batting.  For batting, I used a mattress pad which is one piece, so again there is not much quilting as it will stay together.

Green socks

IMG_3491

I was going to wait until I had some other projects finished, but, yes, I did start another pair of socks.   These will be just plain knitting as the yarn has enough interest that a pattern will not show very good.

Other than that, I went to the gym this morning.   I baked two apple pies, but am not happy enough with the crust to show you.   However, they do taste good.    And there was some house cleaning done as well.

I pray you will have a safe and restful weekend and I’ll be back Sunday.

GO! Cutter

IMG_3496

Today, I attended a class put on by the GO! cutter company.    Yes, I know, they wanted to sell, but then I enjoy seeing their quilts and the new items.   So it was fun and I almost always come away with new ideas.

IMG_3492IMG_3495IMG_3493 Here are some of their quilts that were on display

And here are the dies with which they tempted me to add to my collection.   So you should see these shapes in quilts in the next 6 months.

Green and purple quilt

IMG_3443

Another quilt, finished and ready to go.   This one is 60 x 70.   I love the two greens with the flower fabric.   It looks so spring like and happy.  And I was sure to tuck lots of prayers into it as I sewed on it.

Winterizing the greenhouse

IMG_3447

Yes, except for the tree in the middle, the rest is weeds that grew due to my not getting out there when they were little.   September and most of October, they spent trying to see how much they could take over.   Now, I’ve been out there, moving them to the compost pile.   Does it count that I’ve started now?   I want to get the boxes weeded and covered so they’ll be ready to go in the spring, since I didn’t get winter crops in.

Now it’s time to get some strawberry jam made.   DH tells me he is out.

Busy, busy, busy

IMG_3277

What is this life if, full of care

We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare. (W.H. Davies)

Sometimes I feel this quote describes me.    I feel driven to do all that I can.  I’ve been too busy to really enjoy my animals and I miss that.      So I’m going to try to slow down a bit and enjoy more time with the sheep, the hoop house garden and family.  The quilts and other items are needed, but others are also making them and together we do make a difference.

“The” socks

IMG_3438

This is just getting ridiculous.  I started these socks nearly a month ago and have only just finished the instep.   But I’m on the home stretch now.  Perhaps the elves will finish them this week.   The yarn is 100% wool called Tarantella and produced by Elann     I started the pattern “Dirt”, and shortly realized that I was not following the pattern.   But rather after the ribbing, I worked the first 2 rows with p1,k1 around, then a knit row all around.  Then reversed this and did 2 rows of kl,pl and another knit all the way around.  So there are 6 rows to my pattern.     I continued the way I was going as I had no desire to rip out and start over again.  They will be a good, usable pair of socks
