Personal day

IMG_3574

Out of the house a bit earlier this morning,

with lots of rain and traffic IMG_3576on our way to downtown Seattle to the foot and ankle Dr. and the anesthesiologist pre-op.

IMG_3588  Here are the views of my current ankle.   The medical team needs to remove the three top screws and patch a lot of what looks dark behind the white which looks like an old fashioned phone receiver on the left.   So the procedure is to drill a small hole in the top of the tibia (bone that runs down the front of the leg), take some of that interior bone, grind it to powder and mix it with inert bone, then insert it into the area that needs more bone because it has worn away from the friction of the hardware.  Because this is living bone, they expect it will reproduce where needed.   At least this is the plan for next Wednesday, which has worked well for many patients.    They are hoping that it will work well for me as well.   They will not know until they try it.    If it does not work, they will have to go back in and replace the entire business.    I know what I want.   I do not know what God thinks will be best for me.IMG_3589

This is a mere 3 hour or more, depending on how it goes, operation.   And I am so blessed to live at a time and place where this can happen so that I can continue to walk.

So after this morning visit, we decided to stop for lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant which was new to us, and found the food to be very good.

Tonight, I’m tired, and just making lists.  Then, tomorrow we will have company. and Thanksgiving is elsewhere.   Oh, how fast the days go!

Broken arrow quilt

IMG_3571The Broken Arrow quilt is done!.   It has been washed and dried and is ready for snuggles.

 IMG_3565

I joined Craftsy some time ago and purchased Joan Hawley’s class on “Zip it up” zipper techniques.    This has to be the easiest zipper I have ever put in.    I made this little “Runaround” bag to add to the tote for daughter’s birthday today.    She loved both bags.   Let me explain how being in a hurry helped – NOT!

First, because I watched the video awhile back, I didn’t bother to read the instructions or re-watch the video – that was the beginning of my hurry.    So I put the zipper on-inside out, took it out, and started over.   Glanced at instructions and put all the pieces together.   then I sewed the strap to the inside, fixed that.   Now, the outside back pocket is in the inside.    And I knew better, but being in a hurry, I didn’t think.    I just told her that I put a pocket inside.     So much for a hurry.    Please tell me you do things like this as well.      I love reading your comments, which  make me think we’re having a conversation.

Knitting update

IMG_3562This was the lovely view coming down the hill to our home this morning after my workout at the gym.  We live just over the hill you see at the end of the road.

IMG_3563

This is my end of the week knitting report for 11/20/15.    I now have two pair of socks that are past the instep and ready to be finished when I don’t have to think.     Someday soon, I’ll get a finish.  A good time to do mindless knitting is when I’m a passenger in a car.

IMG_2704 And I was a passenger this afternoon when we delivered all the little hats to the children’s hospital.   Instead, I slept.   That didn’t get much knitting done.   Along with these hats,  Bill crocheted 30 little hats.    His hats took a lot more effort than mind did.

It has been a good week.   Finishes included the monogrammed pumpkins which have been delivered for Thanksgiving, the owls for the boys, the pillow for one birthday, 2 pillowcases for the other, a tote for yet another birthday, and the quilting on a quilt that has waited for over a year.   I’ve tried to get things done by today, since Sunday starts a week filled with a birthday lunch, appointments, and Thanksgiving.   And the next week is surgery.   So this may be the end of much productivity for a while.

Broken arrow quilt

IMG_3560

It  is mostly quilted.    I still need to turn it and do the borders on the sides.   Maybe Sunday.  Next week will be a short week for making items as there is a day’s doctor visits, a day of food preparation with some company and then Thanksgiving.    Hang on while it flies by.

Giraffe baby booties

IMG_3557

Some things never go out of style.    These were the only baby booties that stayed on my babies and I made dozens of these booties in various fabrics and colors.    With just a bit of fabric left from the giraffe quilt, I decided that a pair of booties might make this mother happy.

DH filled the feeder fairly tight and a bit above the sheep heads this time.    I thought it was cute how they made these little holes with their mouths.    Tomorrow this will all collapse as they eat more and the hay becomes loose.

A Birthday Tote

IMG_3554IMG_3553

Here is the front that I created and a panel I had that I could use for the back.

Our middle daughter is having a birthday Sunday.   She has several cats plus is very animal oriented.   I saw a picture of a bag similar to this and knew she would like it.  Then she told me that her purse was stolen 2 weeks ago, though it didn’t have much in it.  She uses the bus for transportation so a bag seemed like a good idea.

This has taken most of the day, because I made it up as I went along and the cats were a challenge.   I also wanted to use the panel on the back, so sized it accordingly.  It is fully lined with a 8″ inside pocket that has a bit of elastic in the top of it.   I sewed the pocket into a side for pencils etc and then the larger side.  The bag measures about 15″ square with a 3.5″ bottom.

Today was the family celebration for 2 of the grandsons who will be 12 between now and the end of the month.  You can see that the Seahawks and food were really the main attractions.

Birthday pillowcases

Sometimes one just needs an interesting day, because otherwise life would go to smoothly.   Bill does his workout at the gym right after I do.   So when I finished and didn’t see him, I thought something was wrong.  It was.   He could not get the key out of the ignition.    So I gave him my keys and took his car to get looked at.   I had to leave the car there so called him to come get me when he was done, which he did.   Then we went to lunch and home again where I desperately tried to get these pillowcases done.    In the middle of this, we got the call, that they couldn’t get the key to stick, so come get the car and bring it in again when it sticks.    Now when I got there with the car, they couldn’t get it out either, so apparently, waiting awhile, the key lost weight or ???

IMG_3529

I did get one of the pillowcases done.   The grandsons each have their own room and one was a bit disappointed that mom was not willing to spend the money for Seahawks sheets, blankets, etc.   Since his birthday is just after Thanksgiving, I  thought perhaps he would enjoy these Seahawk cases.    I put the Hawk up high on the band so it wouldn’t irritate his face while he sleeps.  Now to finish the other case, then wash, dry and wrap.

Sewing and craft show

Today was the “Rusty Barn” sewing and craft show.   Rusty Barn is the name of the company who puts the show on.   It is a smaller version of the big Expo Show the end of February.   I like to go to get things that aren’t available locally and also sometimes to find something new being introduced as well as just to get ideas.

a typical boothIMG_3511IMG_3512

IMG_3514IMG_3518I liked the frame on the first quilt and the colors in the second.

We left early afternoon and I came home to get this pillow made for Christian’s birthday.   The fabric has been looking at me for over a year and it was time to get it done while he is still crazy about dinos.

Green socks update

IMG_3510

I have finished the heel and have picked up the stitches for the instep,, so can now put these away for working on without the brain in gear and can start another pair.

IMG_3509

These are another 15 jars of strawberry jam that will be used as gifts.   We like the good sized pieces of strawberry in it that you see floating.   We stir them together when we open the jar.
