2 Quick n easy sewing projects

IMG_1121

Teeny tiny zip purse is one of the cuter small projects I’ve come across lately.   It went together fast and easy.  I recommend using a nylon zipper.  If you also want to put a credit/debit card inside, you might want to increase the width 1/2 inch.

My purple Wonder Wallet has been so worn with use, I needed to replace it    I changed the new one a bit from the pattern by putting a zipper pocket in and deleting another pocket.    The biggest problem with that was that I did not have a nylon zipper and the metal zipper doesn’t work as well.   And judging from the amount of cards I put in there, I probably should have put the Velcro up higher on the coin part of the purse.  But I will still get a lot of use from it.   It also goes together quickly and is very easy.

Both patterns are real beginner patterns from which you would get a lot of use.   Another idea is to start making some now for all those little gifts one needs throughout the year and at Christmas.

Progress!

Do you ever wish you could just order something and it would land on your doorstep immediately.    I do, but it never happens.   Consequently, I ended up at Office depot for our new wall calendar, at Joann’s for storage boxes, and the grocery store.   That took care of the morning.

And since I knew you would be wondering if I made any headway, after lunch, I came right down to the studio and started.   I found projects I had totally forgotten about and a lot of fabric that had not been replaced after making the quilts.  Now the last part is done and I need to make a new list of projects.    I still have a few minor items to decide what to do with.  I’m thinking the ice cram bucket of old jewelry parts just may go to freecycle.  I don’t see any need for most of it.   And then again, I could stash it on a shelf – NO! that’s what got me in this situation to begin with.   It will have to go.

And see this box under the cutting table.   Those are all scraps that need to be cut into squares and rectangle to make other quilts.   (There are actually two boxes of scraps, but the second one has fabrics other than cotton)  And speaking of that, I should put on my list to make more scrap quilts       So tonight I’m going to bed feeling like I did get a bit done.   And tomorrow, I’ll try to find time to start my list of  “to do”s.   Maybe by New Year’s, I’ll even have time to make a list of what was achieved this year.   I know it doesn’t match last years list, because some things did get done, but others were added.

A rainy day: perfect time to organize

Well, at least the craft stuff was pulled out in an effort to find what I knew I had somewhere.   I looked in the correct box, but didn’t see those bells way in the back.   They are now found and used and I will sort through and label the rest of the items before returning to the shelves.  That should keep me busy for a while, especially since there are some small Christmas items to finish first.

Bags, tops and panties

IMG_0991

IMG_0996

Yesterday, while one of us was sewing, the other was minding the embroidery machine, so we also embroidered a little design on these bags that I purchased on sale at Michael’s.   They were just inexpensive small shopping type bags, but without them, the girls probably would have no place to keep their  doll clothes.   So it seemed like a usable gift.   Each bag has different colors on the front just as the clothes are all different colors or have different colored ribbons.   Have you ever notice how slight differences can make a big difference?

Today I finished up the outfits with another two tops (just alike) and panties for the two girls that didn’t arrive with any.

The dolls for this Christmas are now finished and should go to the woman in charge of collections tomorrow.

Native American boots

IMG_0990

Mary came over today and we literally spent the 8 hours making 3 pair of these  cute little Native American boots.   The doll is slipped into them by opening the back Velcro.    I’m really pleased to have these pretty little boots to go with the dresses for the Christmas giving tree.  Of course,  some of that time was spent figuring out instructions.

New little dress

IMG_0988

I am so pleased with the way this little dress turned out.   It may be my “go-to” dress for these dolls.   I can see many different dresses in different fabrics and even adding sleeves.

Bill’s new project for the day was making the “Anderson’s split pea” soup recipe.   He is learning where items are kept and being an engineer means he follows the recipe exactly.   lol

2 little dresses

IMG_0969

I am quite happy with the way these turned out.  They are alike except for the color of ribbon.   So they can easily be told apart.   I’m guessing that the gifts will be opened at the party for these children.  I still have the boots to make.        I found the photo for the first dress made in October.    So now each of the gift dolls will have one of these dresses. IMG_0733

And what I did with the rest of my day, was the same things we all do: cook and clean.   It’s suppose to quit raining  and get up to 50 degrees tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get back to some of the outside work that hasn’t been caught up – or does it ever.    And there are bulbs to get in the ground because I couldn’t pass up a daffodil/tulip sale.

Why, oh, why?

Remember these.   Well, I laid them to the side to finish – what was I thinking?

IMG_0936

Why do I get a good share through a project and then lay it aside instead of  finish it?   Today, I finally finished putting in the elastic and the Velcro and the hand stitching on these clothes.   Yes, it takes awhile, but no longer than if I would have just finished them at the time of making them.    They are done!   I put in the elastic and did the hand sewing while on the phone with the Geeksquad and Carbonite – my two best buddies these days.

Geeksquad has my computer up and running and Carbonite knows where all my files hid, so they are being put back on my computer.    It has been a trying week, but the Sabbath rest is here.   God knew just what I would need and when.    He knows that about each of us and has it all planned.   I trust all of you will take advantage of the rest He gives.

November Quality Sew Fun infomercial

And now it is time for our special infomercial lcourtesy of Debbie Boyce, at Quality Sew Fun

Look at these darling “Mixed mutts”  from Lunch Box quilts.   They are machine applique that can be used all together as a quilt, or individually on various items.    Adding scraps that are out of the ordinary really make them “pop” and uses some of those extra pieces

And aren’t these “winter mug rugs” cute?   They are so fast and easy to put together for a perfect gift.

DSC00166

Set the Table is a fantastic book that  has 11 quick and easy holiday and everyday quilted runners for your table.   This one looks so fast and easy and the quilting done on it is straight lines.

DSC00173

The following quilts were all done with Strip Smart quilts and there special ruler, though I don’t think the ruler is all that necessary.   The double triangle specialty ruler was available.   These are fast and easy quilts as well.

DSC00163

Holiday Cheer wine tote has a darling little elf boot pattern that holds a wine bottle or other sparkling cider for a delightful hostess gift.   Only the toe has stuffing.

DSC00168

These Cutzy Cupcake placemats from the “Sweet Tea Girls”  would make a terrific gift,  One could have all kinds of  fun decorating them and without a single calorie.

DSC00170

Available were other items like a Kai scissors, chaco liner markers, frixion pens – which you really night like to have, and machingers for quilting on a domestic machine.    I hope this gives you a few ideas for your Christmas list.
