New Go Dies

This has been a day of blessings and rest for us.

P1000534 new Go dies

The mailman brought these yesterday (we get our mail about 5 pm or later), but I’m going to be very good and wait until late fall or winter to use them. They are dies for my GO cutter, which saves a lot of time and gives accuracy.   The middle one is to make raw edge quilts.  They will go much faster with the fringe cut with the machine..    I already have the fabric in mind for the umbrella quilt.  But I will wait.   Perhaps I will get all the pillowcases done and a couple more I spy quilts for Christmastime done first.

And then there is the computer upgrade that is now on my quilting machine that I must make time to learn before I can do some more quilts.    Have you notice that learning never stops?

Aurifil Aug BOM

P1000515 Aurfil button block

Isn’t this a cute block designed to look like a button.    It was fun to put together.

 P1000516 Aurifil blocks

All  8 of the Aurifil blocks for this year.   They are being put together to be a Christmas quilt.

 P1000517 bag under serger

This may be a bit tricky to see  because I have a pillowcase in the works.   But it hit me, that some of you may not realize that you don’t need anything fancier than a store bag to catch the scraps the serger removes.

 P1000518 imperfection

Check some store pillowcases.   They aren’t always perfect either.   So if my trim is a bit off on the side, I let it go.  It’s a PILLOWCASE.

 P1000519 tonites finishes

I did grab enough time to get 7 more done today to bring my total to 18.    See, bit by bit, it happens and it really doesn’t take that long.    It does help that my husband pulls the stuffing out of the burrito so the band is right side out.

This morning I did spend about an hour spinning, but it will be awhile yet, before I have more to show.  Spinning is slow, but relaxing.    Now off to get the rest of the steps done tonight.   15,000 daily takes me 1 1/2 – 2 hours plus my normal walking around.   However, it does reduce the muffin top which I don’t want or need.

Tell it to the stars Aug BOM

I did take an hour to spin this morning before life got in the way.   The spinning is definitely an inch by inch project.     Most of the rest of the morning is a blur.

After lunch I started re making the flying geese – all 24 of them.   No I didn’t throw the first ones away as they will be used somewhere.    I worked all afternoon and just finished the blocks for this month on this project.

The new “flying geese”

Trimming

Trimmed  and all 10 of these blocks are done

P1000500 trimmed

These must be the corner blocks and there as there are only 4 of them.  These are interesting blocks and I’m really curious to see how she uses the  larger triangles.

I think I’ll try to sew a few pillowcases tomorrow – they give instant satisfaction.

On Grandpa’s Pond

I was behind on this block of the month and since DH went hiking for the day, I thought it would be a great time to catch up on Grandpa’s Pond by Two Sister’s and a Quilt

This is block contains both June and July.   Here you can see that I have laid out the first pieces.  They were then sewn  down before any pieces were laid on top of them.

P1020053 on grandpa's pond

Next was added  the frog’s tummy.   It  had to be sewn down before the legs as the legs overlap.  At the same time the butterfly and mushroom stems were sewn down.

P1020054

Then I added the frog legs, mushroom caps, and some of the flowers.   Again, only adding items that won’t have other pieces sewn under them later.

P1020055

The rest of the flowers and the legs for the windmill are added using the pattern placement guide.

P1020056

And the last pieces were the blades and center of the windmill.     Here you can see all the pieces up through July

P1020058

(I’m sorry  this is late, the computer has a mind of it’s own and wouldn’t play nice at all last night.)

Widsith round 2

P1020052 cable socks 2nd roundSlow progress is still progress – just ask the tortoise.   That is how these socks are going to get done.   A bit here and there as I can.     I’m still spinning, but that’s difficult to show.   And of course the Fitbit is grabbing an hour and a half each day.    12,000 steps is a lot of stepping.

A knitter’s gifts BOM

July  is nearly over, and  I’m nearly caught up with my BOM”S     Today I worked on a lovely hat for the Knitter’s gifts by Denise Russert

P1020049

This is the quilt with the blocks we have done so far.

P1020050

The other thing we spent a considerable amount of time on  and phone calls to the company was to install an  update to the quilting machine.   Updates requite redoing most of the connections and the photos weren’t explicit enough for us.   Thankfully the gentleman at the company very patiently guided us through it.   I don’t think  the update would have been necessary except that the computer part of the machine no longer worked after we had the machine cleaned.   (making note to self  to use different company next round)   Computers can be expensive so I opted to just do an upgrade.   Now I get to learn the new programs as the upgrade is on a HP tablet with Windows 8

Oops, I didn’t think about the flash, but know that the computer is now working and ready for me to learn how to guide it.

Aurifill BOM

 P1020029 aurifill july block (1)

The July block of the month is done.   It was very easy and I enjoyed it.

 P1020028 aurifill blocks

Here are all 7 months for 2014.   I think it will be a great Christmas quilt.

I’d like to show you that I made progress on the knitting and I did -= until I had to take out 8 rows due to a couple dropped stitches as I was doing cables.   So I went back to where I was at the last photo and am ready to start again.

mistake quilted

Lesson learned:   If I don’t wish to make a quilt and my whole being says “no”, don’t say yes.      This was such a quilt.   And when my heart isn’t in it, it just doesn’t turn out like it could have.

P1020017 mistake quilt

I will bind it later  and someone will be toasty warm.

This quilt has been a challenge from the beginning and quilting has caused more problems than the rest.   I did end up getting the machine cleaned and now it runs much more smoothly.   So while that was happening the quilt stayed on the machine partly done.

Stars of Honor BOM

P1020016 fit for a hero

All the interior blocks are now finished and I’m guessing she will have us do the star  points and rectangles next time.    But I’m liking how it has gone together.     It will easily be finished by Thanksgiving which is the goal.

Again I took time to practice spinning, but can you tell me why is it when we have longer, sunnier days, it seems I get less done.   Oh, wait, it must be because my body thinks it’s vacation time.   And then again, perhaps it is because we went grocery shopping and to the chiropractor.   That does eat into time.  Or shall I blame it on this Fitbit that wants me to walk 10,000 steps daily.

And the bad news is that one of the neighbor’s house was broken into sometime between 8:30 and 2.   She has dogs and a locked gate.   I guess whoever could see the dogs are locked in the back yard.   Perhaps the most immediate neighbors didn’t notice any barking – that is if the dogs did bark.     That doesn’t make me feel  better.  I have big dogs, but they bark enough off and on at coyotes that I’m reasonably sure my neighbors on either side would not come running to see at what they were barking..
