Knitter’s gifts body done

It rained nearly all day today.   That’s good, the earth is dry so needs some water.   The forecast is the same for the next 10 days;  that should take care of filling our pond.   It’s a good day to bake, but this body doesn’t need extra goodies.

Rain like this makes for a great day to enjoy a fire and that’s exactly what we did.   I did some knitting on the little sweater, but didn’t get enough to show.  Even Kiwi was enjoying the added warmth.

So I came to the sewing studio and finished the body of “Knitter’s Gifts” by Denise Russart.   She creates such fun patterns.  Next month she will tell us how to do the fancy borders.

More knitter’s gifts

Perhaps it’s time I start making real “knitter’s gifts” instead of just a quilt about them.   However, the blocks are now all sewn, but still need to be put together (on another day) .

I know I could use a larger board, but will be happy with this one now.   I just needed to crowd the blocks a bit.

A knitters gifts = mittens

I put these pieces back up on the board and plan to finish except for the borders this week.   The borders are for November’s bom.

Then after researching more ancestry, I pulled myself away long enough to do another block.   These are bigger and have more curves, so they take a bit longer.   This is the first of four, I’m planning for this week

Sew Fun October infomercial

Today’s Sew Fun leader, Lee Fleek, spent a fair amount of time on stenciling and stamping which I haven’t delved into as yet, so I don’t have much to report on that except,  if that is something you are interested in, there are a number of new products on the market.  Here a couple items she showed.   This book she liked and below that is a really cute table setting she put on some fabric as well as a portfolio she made.

These snowflake hangings are from the CD “Snowflakes 2″put out by Purely Gates

They  were designed to be used with or without mylar and can be used in so many ways.

From this CD which has all the designs to make this quilt,

she made this stunning quilt.  She said it was the first quilt she completed and the instructions were so good, that it was easy to do.   It is all programmed in the pattern.

Fiskers has produced some new shears for cutting very thick fabrics and another for cutting heavy items like metals.

And who can resist an owl?    Aren’t they cute?

Other items not photographed included some charms, bodkins, Pleather scraps for purse handles etc. yo yo maker, rhinestone setter,  and a few table runner patterns.

And that, my friends, is your infomercial for this month, which I hope you enjoyed.

He is done!   And he’s a cute little feller.

After a bit of housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation for tomorrow, I did get back and finished this small top which is baby sized.   But since I know I won’t be sewing tomorrow, I’ll save that post for then

Aug “pond” block finished

DSC00033 turtle block

Here is the turtle block added to the windmill block.   Then this new larger block has been added to the fish block.  As you can see, I’m ready to do September’s block.

Finished Globetrotting

This is the interior of the Globetrotting BOM by Pat Sloan.    I toyed with leaving it here, but the size was wrong.

DSC00011 without borders

Her instructions were to have a piano key border around the edge, but I felt like that was a bit to fussy for this quilt, so opted for a plain border.   I am quite happy with how it looks now.   It is the perfect size and colors for a man.  It will probably be given to a veteran.

October Globetrotting bom

Breakfast was so good today – package mix gluten-free pancakes.

DSC00009 pancakes

I loaded the dehydrator with pears and came to the studio with the intention of making some doll clothes.   I started to copy the patterns onto pattern paper, but ran out of paper quickly.   Then I had the bright idea to see what yarns I had to make the next pair of socks, but was side tracked.   Instead I worked on the Globetrotting BOM

These corner blocks and some sashing was part of this month’s assignment.  So the 4 corner blocks have been made.

October Aurofil block

This block was a bit more fussy than I expected.    There are many pieces though at first glance it didn’t seem so.

DSC00006 many pieces

It went together sides, then top and bottom, then sides, etc.

Until I had the  12″ block.   Only 2 more blocks to go to finish this quilt top!
