Christmas quilt etc

Today I want to share with you a new pattern that found it’s way into my mailbox.   It is fairly easy and you might want to make it for Christmas.  And while here, enjoy looking around her sight. You’ll find the complete pattern by Debbie Kratovil:  http://debbykratovilquilts.blogspot.com/2016/09/christmas-in-september-free-pattern.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DebbyKratovilQuilts+%28Debby+Kratovil+Quilts%29

I’m making it in colors and animals for fall.   If you do choose to make this quilt, make a note that “c” on the pieced block should be 6.5″ as it is incorrect on the pattern.img_5238 Also just a reminder to mark the sewing lines on the light fabric to make the half square triangles.

img_5241Here is the photo I promised yesterday – of Juliette and her two lambs who are slightly bigger at 4 months than mom.

The sourdough bread turned out so good, that I made another batch today.   Today’s dough was even better than yesterday’s so I’m anxious to see how that turns out.   I have to wait because this rises 8-24 hrs in the refrigerator and is than baked.

Oh, and this is exciting to me.  This is the first red pepper that I got to before the slugs.

GYM

It’s the first full week in September and time to get back to some things we didn’t take time for during the summer.   So off we trotted to the gym for a good workout.   I tried to pace myself as I really don’t enjoy being sore.    However, I am not one to get more energy from going to the gym, in fact, I think it wears me out.

After lunch, I worked on my 9 patch and surprised myself by getting the quilting done.  It has this school backing that you see on the right.   I’m not sure what I want to use for binding.  I’ll let it set a day or two and see what it tells me.  It measures 52 x 52 which is perfect for a lap quilt.

By the way the Dreamweaver went this morning to a male neighbor who is having chemo right now.

Celebrate flimsy

IMG_4713And now I can show you the quilt that I worked on early summer.   It is a BOM called “celebrate” in The Quilt Pattern Magazine.   http://www.quiltpatternmagazine.com/index.html preview.    I am quite happy with the results.

And since it was done ahead of time, I took the day to clean house including floors and countertops and went shopping.

Dreamweaver finished

IMG_5192The Dreamweaver is finished as is August.   Yeah!  I have an August finish.

Without photos on this, but I spent two hours today going through the neighbors barn (soon to be our barn) with him, helping him decide what was really worth keeping, selling, and tossing.   He has a lot of “treasures” in there.  His wife is too ill to help .  All the original stall sides and doors have been put to the side so he could easily use all the space to “treasures”.

Dreamweaver quilted

IMG_5191The quilting is DONE!.  Dreamweaver from the Strip your Stash book is couch size at 60×80″.  It still needs a binding but that will happen in time.

Other than that, I picked raspberries and apples today.

Scraps

IMG_5178Did you ever stop to think how useless these 2.5″ squares are by themselves.   They are really too small for anything.   But when they work together, look what happens.   I think that applies to humans as well     I separated these 9 patches with an almost white fabric of 2 1/2″ strips.   When quilted it will be a perfect size (50×50″)for a lap quilt.  So two things happened:   I have used up some of my scraps, and someone will get a useful quilt.

I pray you have a restful Sabbath and a great weekend.

Slow and steady

IMG_5122Another inch knit this week.   Slow and steady, they will get done.     Another slow and steady has been the elliptical machine.   Just 5 minutes a day, but every day.  In October, I’m planning to increase the time, when other activities calm down.   So I push myself for those 5 minutes and 10,000 steps daily thinking I must keep moving or get old.

The all day class I attended today was loaded with information on working with the simulator and setting up the information to send to the quilting machine computer.  There is so much to learn and practicing what I learned will help me to really learn it.   However since it was a computer type course (in a very cold room), there was nothing of which to take photos.

August Sew Fun

IMG_5121IMG_5120Holiday creativity was the focus this month. These are sweet little girl aprons that could be started now and actually finished in time for Christmas.

IMG_5112

IMG_5113IMG_5118 As you can see there was a lot of emphasis on placemats, table cloths and runners as well as bed runners and pillows which make perfect gifts for yourself or someone special.   These are terrific because they don’t take a long time to make, but make a big splash.  IMG_5119This book by Leisure Arts has several nice runners.

And that, my friends, was the Quality Sewing infomercial for August, called “Sew Fun”.   Then over to Lowe’s to get some shelves cut and back to all those wonderful things, we need to get done in the course of a day to survive.  I hope all of you are doing okay with the heat wave.  It was 81 here today and is scheduled to go to 90 tomorrow  ( I’ll be in a class with air conditioning).  Then up to 95 for Friday and Saturday – I may be moving to the basement.   Then we drop back to upper 70s and lower 80s for a week IF the forecast is correct.   So take care, drink fluids, rest, and survive.

Bear is finished

IMG_5084The bear is finished.   Next week he will go through a wash and dry cycle and then into the charity pile.

IMG_5083We spent the morning driving into Seattle to get 6 boxes of peaches from the co-op.    They aren’t quite ripe and look like it maybe Monday before I can start canning them.   I can already imagine how wonderful they will taste mid winter.

Quilting class and garden

IMG_5082We were each given a sample pack of quilting stabilizers and batting when we arrived for class.

IMG_5062
These were some of the quilts hanging on the wall and laying across the table – all created by Alex Anderson of quilting fame.   And yes, we were allowed to touch them to see how soft they were using these products.  This is a whole new line of quilting products by R & K distribution specifically to make quilting easier.    There was so much information that the best way for me to give it to you is to give you their website where they describe each of the products and how to use them.   I was impressed with how soft the appliques were especially as that is one area, I’ve have had trouble getting the softness I wanted when I use a fusible product.   The glue in these products wash out when your done, so the stiffness is gone.    Go to:       http://www.quiltersselect.com/video-gallery.php.   There is also a list of times where you can attend seminars on-line for free.     Some of these products can be used with the creative cutting machines.

IMG_5064I thought you might like to see how the personal sized cantaloupe are doing.   There are about 20 of them now.  These 3 are about softball size but not ready to pick just yet.

IMG_5078The peppers are coming along nicely, but none have colored up yet.   And most of what I planted were the orange and red.

IMG_5080This is my first try at sweet potatoes.   Can you see where I lifted the leaves back?   They are trying to take over the aisle and they are getting tall as well.   However, when I reached around one of them by the stem, I don’t detect any underground potatoes.   Should I?   Have any of you ever grown them?   I don’t know if I’m just wasting fertilizer and water and time or if they will actually give me some potatoes.
