Garden update for 9/11/17 begins with these grapes. They are the beginning of the harvest. This was a 4 gallon bucket. I will be making some juice, some raisins, and some frozen grapes. If the birds stay out of them, there may be about 5 times this many.
We have eaten a number of small personal sized cantaloupes. This one is a larger one that isn’t yet ripe.
I’m not sure what happened to the watermelon. Lots of leaves, but no fruit – it really fizzled.
I’m tired of cherry tomatoes and cucumbers and they are dying back, so we have started pulling them and putting in the winter vegetables. We still have a very few squash ripening as well. The weather man says cooler weather for the rest of the year. That is good. When the harvest comes, it doesn’t give you much rest. But it is so very welcome.
WOW, with all the things that you grow and harvest, I’m surprised that you have any time for sewing and quilting. Those grapes are beautiful. Are they sweet ones like you get at the grocery store? They have been very good this year and good prices for both green and red seedless ones. We have enjoyed them a lot.
Wow! You really have a lot growing at your house! except for the watermelon of course… I still remember the year that I worked for my in-laws (the year I met my hubby). They lived on a tobacco farm, and after the planting was finished, they planted their peppers. Mom thought that if the fertilizer worked for the tobacco, it should be good for the peppers too – well, they got lush plants, but not a single pepper… Apparently, tobacco fertilizer is geared to leaf production… She laughed about it later (and they had lots of friends with extra peppers).
